Question about 2005 GMC Canyon

1 Answer

Ignition problem when I try to start the 2005 canyon 4 cyl, I have power for lights, gauges, etc., but the engine wont turn over. have cleaned all battery connections, and verified that the battery is fine. I am wondering if this could be a coil pack, or just the ignition switch. all help is appreciated. Gabe

If the engine won't turn over at all chances are you have a bad starter, or starter solenoid. Coil packs would not even be an issue here. There is about a 1% chance it would be a bad wire going to the starter but I wouldn't even consider it before trying a starter.

If you own a test light you can try this easy test first...

- Locate the starter/solenoid assembly
- Locate the big stud with the power wire coming from the battery hooked to it
- Hook the ground of the test light to a good known ground (beware on this one, more than one experienced mechanic has been fooled by it... rusted/corroded metal is not a good ground by any means...) (Trick of the trade, clamp a pair of Vise-Grip pliers to a piece of metal (unpainted) on the engine, or the body and wiggle the pliers around a bit, this gets rid of corrosion and creates a good ground, clamp the ground wire from the test light to the handle of the pliers)
-Check to see it you have constant power (test light lights up when you touch the big stud on the starter with the probe of the test light)
-Next locate where the smaller wire hooks to the starter solenoid (usually right next to the big stud)
-Put the probe of the test light on this smaller stud
-Get someone to turn the key like they would start the vehicle and verify that you have power on the smaller stud

If you have power on both, the starter motor or solenoid are bad (sold as an assembly), if not, you have eith a problem with the ignition switch, or wiring.

My 2005 Saturn ION (4 cylinders) won't start. With the ignition key turned, I get multiple clicks. I can get radio and dashboard lights until I try to roll down a power window. Then every shuts down. I...

If the starter cranks but the engine won't start, there could be wide range of problems. Here are some of the most common:
- Problems with fuel delivery system (e.g bad fuel pump, fuel pump relay, clogged fuel screen, etc.)
- Problem with engine electronics (e.g crank sensor, cam sensor, air flow sensor, power relay, engine computer, etc.)
- Ignition system problems, especially on older vehicles with the distributor (e.g bad ignition coil, commutator, rotor, distributor cap, etc.)
- Defective ignition switch
- Problems with vehicle security system
- Internal engine problems (e.g broken timing belt or gear, low compression, etc.)

Make sure that you have fuel in the tank. It may be that your vehicle fuel gauge isn't working properly. The first signs that there is too little fuel in the tank are occasional lugging, loss of power, and a louder, irregular sound of the electric fuel pump coming out from the fuel tank

Try to clean the throttle body out. Its not getting enough air going through. The five cylinders create a lot of carbon build up. Is your check engine light on?

2005 hyundai accent wont start

try this? remove all spark plugs and dry them out use a heat source ie gas hob? if wife permits?? then spin engine over to clear cyl/s and refit warmed up plugs ? if you have wd40 or ignition damp start? spray all ign coils/leads electrical connections/ or see if wife will let you use hair dryer and carefully blow ign leads/coils etc then try restart ? this may be a simple case of damp plugs/ignition and engine/plugs are flooded from dampness trying to start after snow ? wish you luck please update on progress

Our 2004 GMC canyon will not start from time to time.

Could be any number of thing's . Engine management system sensors . Anything mentioned on here would be a guess . Having a qualified repair shop with the proper testing equipment viewing sensor scan data is the way to a fix . Not going by peoples guess . It could be a fuel system or ignition system prblem , engine sensor etc....
047 Engine Hard to Start or No Start Scan Data for Ignition
048 Engine Hard to Start or No Start Scan Data for Starting Problems
Takes year's to learn how to properly diagnose these systems . I have over thrity year's experience , thousand's of dollars of scan tools , diagnostic equipment etc... An ever year they come of with new stuff , I go to GM tech school 4 or 5 times a year .
