Question about 1994 Nissan Maxima

94 nissan maxima se, Squeeling loud when car is started.

My car will make a loud squeeling noise just after the car is started and sometimes when i put my car in drive after i reverse out of a parking spot it will make the same noise. Fiddling with the A/C seems to help but not sure. Could be a belt?

Thank you for your responses. I did have a friend replace the belt. However the last time i was under my car i had noticed that there were two belts if im not mistaken. One looked new and the other was old so he probably only replaced one...The one that wasn't the problem. I have tried the conditioner and it will still squeal now and then. I appreciate the help.

I changed the belt, but it's still squeking and there some smoke coming from the pulley area. Could it be the harmonic balancer that's bad?

More than likely yes it is the belt. If the belt isn't cracked, (which can be viewed by looking at the ribbed side) I would suggest some belt condtioner. If any foreign material gets on the belt (like oil) it could cause it to squeal. As long as the belt its self isn't damaged, It won't hurt anything. However this isn't a constant noise correct? Just occational? If its occational than for sure get some belt dressing/condtioner. Avaliable at Wal-mart or any autozone ect. for around 5 bucks. Hope this helps.

Hello,
I can't tell exactly what it is since I cannot hear it, but in most cases it's a belt. Check that first, or have a friend help you - one of you can start the car and the other one can look under a hood to search for the squeeling part.

Squeeling after replacing all belts and the tensioner pulley?

Still sounds like the belts, not much will cause that type of noise. You can completely remove all belts and start engine to see if noise is still there, no harm to engine to run it for a minute or two with no belts. You will know for sure then.

The squeeling noise you hear could be the bearings in your power steering pump, when bearings go bad they tend to make a squeeling noise.

Loud sqoeeking noise when turning front wheels

is it a squeeking or a squeeling....

If it is a squeeking noise, take the car to have every thing on the front suspention lubed up, is possible it is dried out.

If it is a squeeling noise, then that means you need a new drive belt.
