They are torx head screws, but be careful, before you remove them or do anything near the air bag you must disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes before you start, when you are done you need to re-connect cable and wait 2 minutes and turn the key forward and wait for any air bag light warning to go away.

How do you remove the headlight switch on a subaru

The headlight switch is part of a muti-switch the runs the lights on one side and wipers on the other. They are not cheep.
1) remove air bag
2) remove steering wheel
3) remove steering colum covers
4) unplug multi- switch (there may be 2 screws that hold the plug to the colum
5) remove screws (I think there is 4 screws) that hold multi-switch
6) remove muti-switch. (there may be a ty-wrap or wire harness holder you will need to free the wires from)
7) reverse order to reinstall

Hello, thank you for helping. I have a 1990 Chevy truck C1500 with a broken steering column that is a tilt, and I have a floor shift. I found a 1990 Chevy truck C1500 tilt steering column from a standard....

if you have a floor shift and the replacement has a colum shift..you can use the colum and remove the pin that holds the shift arm on..it comes out with a pin remover .. just tap it down and out..the arm slides out..then use as normal..

98 Lincoln Town Car gear shift leakage is a little sloppy. How can I adjust this myself. Have reasonable skills and limited funds. Shop said they could tighten for around $50.00. I have access to a lift...

If your problem is a loose shift lever on the Colum ,it is bad shift tube bushings. You can replace just the nylon bushings on the tube. lower the steering Colum (4 nuts under dash hold it ) be care full not to brake the gear shift indicator cable (nylon string). the tube has 2 brackets that hold it to the Colum (torques head bolts). remove bolts and remove old bushings ,install new ones and reassemble the Colum .All so check for lose bolts at the bottom of shift tube ,a bracket is bolted to tube that connects it to the shift cable.

Transmission want go into over drive

That could be a switch problem or a bad solenoid in the transmission. I do not recommend you try replacing the solenoid your self unless you have a lot of special tools for removing the transmission and opening it up as well as putting it back together. Some checks to do before you condemn the transmission: 1. Check the fluid level to make sure it is between the two marks on the dip stick. 2. Check that the overdrive switch is actually working. This is located on the Shift arm in most cases but occasionally is located on the dash somewhere near teh shift arm. 3. If the indicator for Overdrive is the actual position you have the shift arm in, indicated by a circled "D" then it may just be a matter of adjusting the cable. You can actually change gears on this vehicle by turning the lower portion of the steering column if it has the center console shift. This all points to a minor adjustment problem.

Automatic shifting arm moves freely and wont engage gears

take off the plastic cover around the steering wheel should be about 3 or 4 screws from the bottom holding it on and see if the lever is broken where it bolts to the steering colum ive seen this happen just the other day on a 2000 jimmy which uses the same shifter assembly

Where is the ignition switch in an 1989 chevy S-10

Remove lower dash panel, under steering wheel, there will be a bracket that holds steering wheel, remove both 15mm nut's that point up, not the 13mm bolt's the screw into the colum , steering wheel will come down enough where you will see the ignition switch on the top side of the colum, the switch will be screw to the colum with the head light dimer switch.

92 buick lesabre, left blinker won't work unless you move it manually. bulbs and fuse are fine. hazards work.

Hi Friend:

Since you've check or Changed your Bulbs and Fuse also Check or Replace your Turn Signal Flasher,Just as a Percation i would Double Check Fuses,Bulbs and Signal flasher.

If these are All showing bad I would say your Signal Switch has Stopped Working.

To Replace the Signal Swith :

1st Disconnect your Negative Battery Cable.

Remove Steering Wheel (you'll need a Puller, the remove the Shroud around the Steering Wheel Colume.

CAUTION= If you have Air Bags be careful. But you will have to remove the Air Bag Module by removing the coil lock spring Screw.

Then remove the Retaing ring and Coil Spring it will still be attached to your wiring=Just let it Hang.

Next you'll need a Compression Lock Spring Plate Tool.

Attach it to the Center of the Steering Colume, Rotate the Nut Clockwise to Remove,After Compressed you'll see a Metal Snap ring Remove it from the Groove then remove the Tool& Plate

Now you'll need to remove the Plastic Cancel ,the ring and ALL the Bearing including the Bearing Race.

Remove the Signal Arm Lever Screw. then the Signal switch Screws. Pull the Switch out and let it Hang(Still attached to the Wiring.

Get down under then you'll have to look for the screws that hold the wiring to steering colume, Remove then.

Then remove the Retaining Rng and the Wire Plug Protector. Now you Can Pull the Signal Swith Out.

Installing New Swith Simply Reverse the Removal Directions to Install your New Switch.

Please take time to Vote on my Quality of Service and the Help i Provided And a Small Testamony would be Great. If you don't mind.

Thanks for Using FIXYA

The overdrive fuse keeps going out

You need to check the circut for a shorted wire. If it takes a little time than you probaly need to replace the overdrive solinoid located in the valvebody. If you have the overdrive button in the gear shift handle than check the switch and wires going down to the steering colum. However it is more than likely the solinoid is shorting out.

I need to replave the key switch in a 1991 cavalier

First disconnect your negative battery cable. Then remove the plastic cover below your steering colum, and the covers that cover your headlight swith, turnsignal switch, ignition, ect. Remove the bolts that hold the steering colum to the dash, and allow it to lay on the drivers seat. Place a towel under the colum (to catch metal shavings), and drill out the two screws that hold the ignition in place.
Install your new ignition in reverse.

Heater core leaks

yup you will have to remove the whole dash, unhook batteries and wait 20 min, for air bags, unhook all wires ect from steering colum and remove the colum as an assy, behind the kick panels both sides you should see some bolts holding the dash to the kick panel (some will have a sloted holes so you dont have to remove the bolts just loosen them (this allows you to tilt the dash back away from the winshield) unhook all nessesary wiring, heater controls, stereo wires ect.. remove screw's securing the upper dash to firewall, tilt dash back and check for any other wiring ect.. remove intire dash! now you will need to remove the intire heater box to gain access to the heater core, you can pinch off the heater hose's so you wont have to drain the intire cooling system, some of the vans used a quick disconect right at the firewall and require a special release tool to release them almost impossible without the tool, once this is done you have to evacuate the ac system and unhook the lines, then you can remove the heater box( nuts on the firewall engine side) and dissasemble to gain access the the heatercore! (not for the faint at heart) some models can take as long as 16 hrs to r&r so if your asking about doing one means your not going to have fun! I recomend taking it to the shop and have it done by pro's, or at least spend the money and buy a repair manual
make shure you do it in a heated shop cuase if you fight it in the cold your apt to break some plastic! take your time and dont get frustrated, it will pay off, and always vacum test the new core before installing it to make dang shure it doesent leak before you install it! reasemble in the reverse order, this is just off the top of my head but gives you a general idea what your up against! have fun!
