2006 Passat Trunk will not latch. The trunk switch doesn't engage

No warning of any kind. Its my grandaughters car. The switch doesn't cycle the trunk latch. No action at all. I could not find the fuse block to even check them. The gas lid switch next to the trunk switch works okay. Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem, I think. When I try to shut the trunk on my '06 Passat it will not latch and the trunk will not stay closed. It seems to be a cold weather problem. I've worked the latch manually and whatever is supposed to catch the latch and secure it seems to need lubrication or something. I've randomly sprayed WD-40 into the latch but it does no good. VW must have a problem with this as my service rep at the VW dealer said he has had more than a few similar problems and replacement parts are getting harder to get.

My 2006 VW Jetta does the same thing. During the colder months I am unable to get my trunk to latch. It will seem as if it is closed but then when I turn on the car the trunk ajar symbol comes on. If I ignore this and think that the trunk is surely closed because I cannot pull it open, sure enough it pops open while I am driving. The only way I can assure it is closed is if when I push the locked button on my key the car will make the lock beep when I close the trunk and it truly latches.

I have a 2005 "55" plate Passat and have the same fault over the last two weeks, "Truck (Boot) ajar warning on dash, unable to close Trunk (Boot), or if I can get it to latch, the warning light stays on and the Trunk (Boot) pops open. I have owned the car from new and this is the first winter that I have had this problem.

I have an 06 jetta as well that is leased, the trunk does not open or close, what is the part number for the trunk switch? also the fan started to work really loud. Its been 37 months and the car is falling apart slowly. I think I would stay away from VW.

A motor is used to release the latch. A spring is used to retract the spindle that the motor drives to release the latch. The spring becomes too weak to pull the spindle back and thus keeps the latch from latching. This was on a 2006 Jetta. I had to remove the latch mechanism and disassemble the latch itself to get to the spring. I separated the spring and re-assembled it. It is working well now.

I had a similar problem with my 2006 Jetta.

Basically, on the left hand side of the trunk, there is a rubber hose that runs alongside the closing mechanism, hidden by a flimsy plastic guard.

Through basic use, this guard cracked, and part of it and the hose would get in the way of the mechanism, preventing it from locking/closing properly.

So I removed the broken guard, and used electrical tape instead to keep the hose out of the way of the closing mechanism.

Really, though, VW should do something about this. I didn't find out it was the cause of this problem until closing the trunk, having it secure but not "beep" and pushing down on parts of the trunk until I received the "beep" signifying all doors were locked.

Then you probably have a sticking trunk latch, a weak/partially shorted trunk latch actuator, or high resistance in the trunk latch actuator circuit.

does the key turn the trunk lock?if not theres one issue right there.the other may be that the valet lever on trunk latch assy. may have inadvertantly been engaged if deck lid was slammed closed.the release solenoid will make noise when activated by fob or lever in car but because of valet being engaged cannot release latch.does key unlock glovebox?if not this may also be a valet key cut.contact nissan dealer to cut regular key.ive seen the slamming the deck lid scenario a million times as the valet lever takes hardly any effort to engage.good luck and let me know how you make out.

Vw 2006 passat trunk won't close

this always happens to my 06 passat when its really cold, im talking 0 or lower. i try not to open the trunk in the winter if i can help it. Its annoying but in the summer i have no problems. I have herd of alot of other people having this problem, VW knows about it and dosnt think its a recall item for somereason, look for your fancy gas door to not open next, i know of 3 people that started having trunk problems and then the fuel door stopped working, not sure if it has anything to do with it or not. but It happend to me and now i have the auto fuel door disconnected from the inside of the trunk.
The trunk issue isnt anything big to worry about it seems intermittent. I found latches and there a little pricey thats why i just deal with it.

2006 Jetta 2.5 trunk latch operate when really cold

you need to remove the trim cover on the inside of the trunk lid. it sounds like the solenoid is jamming. the solenoid should flick out against a lever that will release the trunk lid and then return back again within a split second. if it stays out then it is jamming, and thus holding the truncks locking mechanism open.
the solenoid may also jam shut and therefor not release the lock. if you can see this happening then replace the solenoid.
