I'd check with Shokan (www.shokan.com) - they're an Audi salvage yard in upstate NY, near Woodstock. Your car shares engines with several of the A4 and possibly TT cars, and Shokan can probably supply the engine you need.

Carefully!
You will need to remove under shield and support engine.
I would suggest you purchase a Haines manual. Lots of pics.

2001 volkswagen beetle turbo only goes 10 mph and has white smoke out of the back

Go to your local parts store and get a tester, sounds like a blown headgasket, they will know what you need. Just tell them you think your headgasket is blown and you need a tester kit to test it.

2001 1.8L turbo VW beetle replace the cabin air filter

Push the center piece, on the dash, forward until it unsnaps and exposes the screws for the passenger side piece. Take the piece off and you will see the filter bracket down in the dash. Remove the filter and replace with new one.

Bad missing in motor on 2001vw beetle

If it is a 1.8 turbo the plugs are under the coil packs on top of the engine. A regular spark plug wrench will fit them. They are down in the block about six inches. They are easy to change. I changed them in about 30 min. The coil packs are held on by 2 torx screws.
