Question about 1995 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

Ignition switch This afternoon I parked my car & shut off the engine & left the keys in the ignition. When I came back to the car..I was not able to start the car or pull the key from the ignition. Even though the car was in park I did notice that the steering wheel didn't lock. How can I remove my keys and / or start the car. Ken

2010 holden cruze diesel. stuck in park, keys are stuck in ignition. have no brake tail lights no windscreen washer 12 volt socket in car and the boot is locked. please help.

The stuck in park is easy disconnect the linkage at the transmission and move the selector red by two notches (by hand) this will place the transmission in neutral if there is resistance chock the wheels release the handbrake and rock the car ( back and forward to take load off the parking parking pawl which is stuck) no electrics is because of the ignition position remove the ignition switch from the column this isolates from the ignition lock and manually move the slide until the engine starts (make sure the hoot & hand brake are applied in case you ******* up the selector job and left it in gear. once the engine starts reconnect the transmission linkage. restart the engine and run the selector through the gears if all is OK.either cut the old ignition lock off the steering column and replace or get a locksmith to remove the key and then re-cut a new key from the spare or from the manufacturers code. all done

My ignition is stuck in the on position

I would bet that the it is not recognizing that the vehicle is in park at the shifter. Your car goes into park but it is not triggering the electronic switch that tells the ignition this is happening.

When i shift it into park and turn the engine off and then proceed to pull the key out it wont relaese.

your ignition switch may be going bad. suggest this, turn key to off position, wiggle sterring wheel while removing your key. this won't last long though. you can try not stressing the steering by not parking on a hill,or parking the car where the steerings going to be in a [bind] or it may be only a ignition switch going bad,you can try this 1st though, while you're attempting to turn your key on, turn your steering wheel to right and left gently,if this works, your ignition switch is worn.if you continue to park the car in a bind,[on a hill] [up or down] it will get worse. and you will have to replace the ignition switch.

I can't pull out the key it seem that the car locked the key and i cant start the car

Make sure the gear selector is fully in park, alot of times if the cars wheel was turned when the vehicle is parked the steering wheel is locked in the turn position and it puts pressure on the ignition switch. Try turning the steering wheel slightly left/right and see if it kicks back. If it does you have tension on the ignition and need to hold it until the key is turned to the on position and it unlocks the ignition. If you can try to let the wheel come to a rest before turning off the ignition as opposed to holding the wheel turned and shutting off the ignition, this will avoid a locked wheel/column

Ignition Switch

Push brake pedal hard & crank steering wheel back & other way, while trying to turn key. Try to avoid leaving wheels turned when parking if it works. I always center mine then shut it off.
