Question about 2007 Infiniti FX45 AWD New Cars

Strange engine shut down

Driving along, just accelerated into traffic. 40 MPH
Notice throttle unresponsive. Engine stuck at 2000 rpm.
After several seconds which seemed like an eternity, engine quits entirely.
Heavy-armed steering and very heavy braking got the car over safely.
Try to restart many times over ten minutes: Same 'exact' cycle: Start, 1000RPM for a second, 500RPM for a second, quit. No roughness; all cylinders felt like they were firing; the motor was simply shut down.
Dealer says its bad fuel, but I doubt it; we only go to one Phillips 66 station. Our other cars are fine.
Help!
Thanks in advance!

Hi Fastbozy, or is it Kevin0000?

You're solution sounds far more plausible. I'll definately give you the thumbs-up. Hope you get a few bucks outta my membership. And thanks for responding so fast!

They did mention after a second call something about a high-alpha code? I couldn't get to talk with the actual mechanic - only a service writer - and you know how those conversations can be.

I know just enough about engines to be dangerous, if you know what I mean.

Would appreciate if you are able to let me know what that code means or if it changes your diagnosis.

    Thank You!!!!!

I would also doubt bad fuel.
did the dealer scan the car to see if it set any codes?
this is a fly by wire car that means there is no throttle cable. if there were a glitch in the therottle sensor it would shut down the engine after the computer sensed the throttle not responding. but this should have set a code that would have stayed in the memory

yes they did find a code they should have replaced your throttle sensor . the high code made your engine rev up and then shut down. many times a dealer will want to see this happen acouple of times so its not a fluke. its going to happen again and this should be covered under warranty. as it is a part of your emissions warranty that will cover you to 100,000 miles
    yes im fastboyz

Viscous fan come loose can car be driven

It can be driven but you will have to monitor the engine temperature guage to make sure it doesn't get too hot. As long as your driving steadily over 30 mph, you should be fine. The problem is if you are stuck in traffic, your engine can overheat.

What you can do if you are stuck in traffic is turn your heat in your car to max and point the vents out the window. That will help somewhat. If you are stuck in traffic too long it may be wise to pull over and shut the engine off until the traffic is moving at a good clip again.

When I accelerate it does a fluctuation in gears...the rpm goes up and down...even when im driving at 40 mph it shifts then it hesitates at that speed..could it be the throttle sensor is dirty?

Is the "check engine" light on??? to isolate your problem have you tried MANUALLY shifting the trans (automatic) and still doing it?? check the fluid level and condition of the oil...sound more like the trans is slipping...the "TP" sensor will effect the engine and trans. But not cause over-reving......hope this helps...GL

one unit that operates ratio changes and is connected to the engine is that vacuum operated actuator on the transmission
it is possible that that unit is failing , vacuum hose is leaking and that will cause ratio changes as the vacuum varies
run the fault codes to check for wiring problems or VSS or TCM problems as well
