Question about 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier
When I opened the door to exit the car the lights came on for about 2 seconds then they went out and now they don't come on at all.
You might have just popped a fuse, or the bulb burnt out. It takes more electricity to turn on electrical thing than to run them, so 2 seconds sounds right.
Your fuses are either under the dash on the drivers side, under the hood in a black plastic box, or in a panel in the side your dash (drivers door must be open). It should be marked "fuse".
DO NOT replace a fuse with a higer value than it calls for, this is a fire hazard. A fuse prevents circuit overload.DO NOT replace a bulb witha lower value, it may melt. If it's the bulb itself, go to an auto parts store and they can look it up, or bring it inside, theres useful numbers on it.
If this keeps happening, there is a short in the system where the wire is gronding out, pooping the fuse. Don't bother going to a shop, it will cost too much.
