Question about 1997 BMW 328
The car only has 60,000 miles. The battery and engine light are on. They changed the fuel pump, but it still won't start. It turns over, but nothing.
Hello, check for a damage crank position sensor this sensor sends the singnal to the dme (digital motor electronics ) to inject fuel and pulse the ing coils and will also start the fuel pump when it see a rpm above 500 this is a good tell sing if you crank the engine and the rpm does not jump there is a good chance that the crank posistion sensor is bad / the battery and engine light will be on untill the engine strarts

SOURCE: using oil
After 170K miles, you,ll have piston-Ring wear and valve wear.
There are certain oil additives, that can help with this.
It would be practical, to have the cylinder head refurbished also. valves re-ground and any valve stem oil seals replaced.
this won,t be a complete solution. but will definately help reducing oil usage, and excessive fuel emmisions.

SOURCE: FUEL PUMP
The fuel pump on a 3 series BMW is located under the rear seat.
To access it you will need to remove the lower part of the rear seat by pulling it up.
Then an oval shaped cover on the passengers side should become visible.
Under this cover is the fuel pump.
I would suggest taking the cover off and inspecting for signs of replaced parts.
(new parts should be shiny ;)
Hope this helps!
