The car starts fine but once it is turned off for about a 15 min to 1hr i go to start it and it cranks over but will not start up. I let it sit for about 5 to 7 minutes and it fires right up. I have replaced coil packs, Ignitation coil modual but it's not that. i was told it is not the fuel pump cause it was checked.

Need to know more, clicks but wont start, cranks slow, car is ovedrheating, Bottom line is that it is either the engine is overheating and the cylinders are locking down the engine, The starter motor is failing or the battery or cables are failing
Hey can someone help me? I've got a 94 buick park avenue and i just put a new battery in and its trying to start but won't turn over.My lights are on.But i'm not sure the name of this piece that looks cracked. Its sits in the front and looks like its barrel shaped.
if car shuts off while driving it could be a bad crank sensor. a bad crank sensor will shut car off while driving, then it will not start for about 10 minutes, when it starts it runs fine until it goofs up again. the popping could be the sensor for it controls timing along with the cam sensor.
I too have a 97 buick skylark custom, that hasn't been cranking. Heres what I have figured out so far, so you may have the same problem. Heres the first question - Is the theft system light flashing when you try to crank the car? Cause if it is, it means the car isn't wanting to recognize your key as the correct key which is causing the car to go into tamper mode which disables fuel to the engine, in which case you have to turn the key back to the start position and wait for the light to stop flashing then try to crank it again.
P.S. i'm not sure why this other thing would be a problem but i lost my gas cap right before this started happening and someone told my that might trigger the sensor, do you have yours?
Take the original key, if you have it. Start the car, kill the car then start it with the new key. This will work for adding a key. If you are replacing a lost key then you will have to learn it to the theft system.Place the key in the ignition, turn it to run for 10 min. Cycle it off then back to run for 10 min. Cycle it off then back to run for 10 moer minutes. When the 30 minutes is up turn it off then try to start it. Thai should work. I have had to do it more than once. Good Luck
