your shift cable is stretched or broke. try starting in nutral. if this doesn't work you need to adjust or replace shift cable. this is a very easy fix but it should start in neutral.
no the transmission shift cable is streached and needs to be adjusted. you should be able to shift the van to neutral and start it in that gear. just watch when you park because it will roll away. use parking brake. if it doent start in neutral then your cable may be snaped and not noving the gear selector on trans at all

try bleeding the slave cyl if hydraulic, if not it may be an adjustment could be the clutch is reaching its wear limit, or the pilot bearing is not rolling free either way you will have to remove the trans,
follow the thottle cable to where it connects. have someone step on the accelerator while the car is off while you look under the hood. if you dont know where it is. there will be holes in a plate where it connects. disconnect and move forward for hgher idle or back for lower idle and reconnect.
