How come when I shut my 2000 grand marquis off it completely dies and takes so long to charge

Control module problem , your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop.

Sounds like the heater temperature lever is disconnected from the blower/heater core box.

The compressor could be locked up which would stop the engine when the a/c clutch engages.

When you say it wont start, it wont crank even a little bit? any clicking? i would look for an issue with the starter if the wires are getting hot, you could have a corroded ground wire which would cause a backup of electricity making the wire hot(simply put)

It's the control cluster you can fix it yourself, or take it in go to your kick panel and take the fuse out to stop it

u better go git a OBD 2 scan to see if ther is a dieing computer -sensors etc-they plug a code machine to the datalink connector n it will show u on screen watsup-free a most discount places

If able, ck the charging voltage at the battery. The alternater should be charging the battery between 13,6 to 14.2v. The lower the voltage the more its charging. Make sure both battery cables are clean and tight. Good Luck.

Have you checked the positive connection from battery to starter? this connection has another feed that runs the rest of the car. Its either loose or corroded. Take battery terminals off and soak in baking soda, water and 2 drops of dishwashing detergent. If any corrosion is present this mixture will foam and remove your corrosion.

Its odd that car dies Are you sure you do not have a dead cell in the battery?
