Question about 1997 Volvo 850

1 Answer

Brake lights do not work

Brake lights stopped working (most of the time)...
Checked the obvious, bulbs and fuse, removing and re-seating all.

When you apply brake pressure on the pedal, I do hear a click coming from the center console area between the from seats.

Could this be the brake switch or perhaps a relay? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Why my tail lights don't work but my brakes and turn signals still work

some bulbs have dual filaments in them. One for tail lights and the other for brake/blinker lights.
Many times one element will burn out but the other will still work.

Try replacing the bulbs.....assuming you have already checked the fuse for the brake lights. (many cars have the stop and back up lights on the same fuse)

put a prybar between seat and brake pedal and use a test light on the wire in trunk where bulbs are sometimes bulbs look good but aren't or you got wrong bulb. a test light will verify that and make sure test light lights

Brake lights turn signal not working on drivers side

check the wire loom from the boot to under the back seats, I have herd over time the back seat can cut the wiring loom as the metal in the back seat can cut the wires. saw this on a classic cars site a few years ago. you will need to fix the wires back and reseal the wires with sealing tape. also make sure the wiring is back out of the way for the seat.

How do i fix the brake lights on my mercury sable. all the other lights work fine

Does your car have the `lamp out'indicator system? It's more complicated.
My manual shows fuse #28 , a 15 amp fuse powers the brake bulbs. Is this the one you changed?
A bulb can be out for a long time and you don't notice it,then the other burns out and you think they both went out at the same time, but they might not have, see?
So check the bulbs and make sure you got that brake switch installed correctly. don-ohio (:^)

My brake lights stop working

You have 3 things to check. First the bulbs and that is easy. You will either unscrew the
lens cover and get access to the bulb. The other access is in the trunk. You may need to move
the liner to get to a twist-loose type bulb holder. Replace one bulb and hit the brakes. Does it light up?
If so, replace others not working. If the bulb doesnt light then check your fuses. Your fusebox cover
should have a list of what the fuses protect. Look for taillights or brake lights. If those dont get it fixed
you may have a bad brake light switch that is on the brake pedal. Get upside down under the dash and locate the switch mounted above the pedal. These are farely easy to remove and should have a connector
that you pinch to release the switch from the wiring harness. Call around for the best price/availablity and swap a new one in.

Left rear brake light stopped working but bulb and fuses are OK.

These are Dual Function Bulbs. They control the Parking Lights and the Brake Lights. This Bulb is Burnt out on the Brake Coil inside the Bulb. I have actually seen Bulbs that were Bad But you could not Tell by jast looking at them. It should be fine with a New Bulb. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
