Question about 2001 Hyundai Elantra

Power Problem Hi everybody. Just started to have a weird problem on my automatic '01 Elantra. I'm not a mechanic but I know a bit on cars. First, it started with the Check Engine turned on. It turns on and off randomly. When accelerating on a on a flat or upward sloped road, the engine skips. It's giving me the feeling that the fuel is not injected. I changed the spark plugs and put a good injectors cleaner in the fuel tank. What can be checked? The TPS, MAF( MAP), Knock Sensor, PCV? What else? Any idea greatly appreciated.

My car just started to do all this and the spark plugs were my first guess. I was also thinking that it was my transmission starting to kill out. In fact, if I top off the trans fluid, it stops for a while and runs better, but that is just a quick fix.

OMG!!! I have the same problem and they told me it was the speed sensor. I replaced one of them (for 95 dollars!) And nothing changed.

But It does have two speed sensors and I might have changed the wrong one.

Try changing them both, and if that does not work then you need a 02 sensor for the hyundai elantra.

The 02 sensor is the most common (and cheaper!) problem

Hi, mechanics are good at fixing mechanical bits, you need the services of a proficientauto electrician. Check around for recommendations. I used to be a mechanic of sorts, can do bodywork but don't know much about electrics. Most garages employ guys who are okay in one area but are not expert in others.
Good Luck

01 elantra new battery still won't start

What happens when you try to start?

do you hear any noises?

have you checked to see if there is power on the large wire at the starter? Have you checked to see if there is power on the small wire at the starter with the key in the crank position? If yes to those two questions than the starter may be your problem.

Hi there, I live in Colombia South America and I have a HYUNDAI Elantra 2001 automatic transmission and it behaves exactly like yours. I have the best mechanic guy intown and also the dealer garage take down the whole transmission and nothing changed. It seems now to be something with the electric wiring system.

I would recommend you to have the electric system checked.

Good luck.

No this is normal. This whine you hear is the fuel pump turning to pump fuel. Try not to run it under a 1/4 of tank to much though because if you do and you run out of fuelit can burn the fuel pump out. Chris J.C. Towing

If you have not done so already, check the transmission fluid level. If you are low on fluid, there is a chance that adding fluid to the correct level may solve the problem. The fluid level should be checked with the car idling and the shift lever in neutral. There are two sets of Hi/Low marks on the transmission dipstick, one for Cold (car just started) and one for Hot (car running for 20 minutes or more). Use Hyundai recommended SPIII fluid. However, this does seem like a more serious transmission problem. Take the car to a qualified transmission mechanic.

Elantra automatic trans problems

Does the Check Engine light come ON when this happens? Whenever the "Check Engine" light comes on, there is always a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) stored in the ECM (Engine Control Module). You'll need an OBDII (On-Board-Diagnostics) scanner to retrieve any codes recorded/set in ECM. Once you do this and let us know what, if any codes are set, then we can go from there.
