The dashboard fan switch has 4 levels. The only level that turns the blower on is the max (high) level.

To help others I'm the one that had that problem. Through the internet I found out was wrong. It was the "blower motor resistor" The location of it is under the passenger side dash, in Front of the blower motor. You will see 5 wires going into a plug held up by 2 screws. THAT is the "blower motor resistor." Remember this location is for a 2004 dakota, it will probably be different for different years. The cost of it varies with each part store. From 11.99 up to 25.00 dollars. I bought it from the dealer, so it cost me 16.25 dollars. IT WORKS GREAT!! Good Luck

I have the same problem with a 2003 Dodge Dakota and am wondering if the resistor is in the same place as in the 2004

I had the same problem as "rmont" with the 2004 Dodge Dakota heater fan switch. I followed his directions and got it all back together and it works like a charm! The guy at the NAPA auto parts store told me that was a common problem. He said, in most cases when a fan motor only works at the top setting the "blower motor resistor" is bad and needs to be replaced. I had no problem getting the old part out but working under the dash was a little tough getting the new part back in. With the use of a small mirror laying on the floor I was able to get the screws back in the proper place. Thanks for the help. I believe you saved me some$$$$

sounds like you need a new blower resistor, its under the dash on pass. side. if it goes bad your blower will only work on high. its fairly easy to change

I have a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica and my blower is blowing only cold air. The heat does not work.

Tenia, the most likely cause is that you are low on engine coolant. The coolant from the engine also runs through your heater coil. Check the coolant level when the engine is cool. There is a line in the coolant resevoir that says 'Cold Max'. Add the premixed coolant until you reach that line.

If that works, I would monitor the coolant level over the next few days. If it drops again, you likely have a coolant leak somewhere.

2005 Chevy Avalanche - my heater contol turns the fan off when I put it on #5......works fine on 1, 2, 3, and 4, but as soon as I turn it to 5 ....it stops.....

Motor switch has gone out, most likely due to high load on level 5. Replace switch and I suggest lubricating blower motor bearing to help take the strain on the system.

The heater in my 2002 Dakota works only at the very highest setting. There is no power at the lowers settings. The defrost light doesn't come on until that setting also, so definantly no power. When turned...

I'm assuming you mean the fan only works on high. If that's the case the blower motor resistor is bad. When the fan switch is on high it puts a full 12Volts to the blower motor. When you have the switch in any other possition, the voltage is routed through the resistor and reduced thus making the motor run slower.

The resistors are in circuit only on the lower fan speed settings.
On the highest speed setting, power is switched directly to the fan motor.
Check fan power supply fuses,
Check power is available to the fan when high speed selected.
If all above OK, apply power directly to the motor to verify fan motor runs- if it doesn't the motor may need replacement/repair.
