A4 Transmission shifting

Hi,

I have an 97 Audi A4 with automatic transmission. It has a problem when I accelerate the car. Basically, when I gradually accelerate the car, let's say from 0, the engine would run faster, as expected. But as the rpm of the car increases (as displayed in the control panel) the transmission would not change gear at the right time, but it eventually changes gear when the rpm becomes exceedindly high. This situation happens in cars with manual transmission, when the driver does not change gears as the car's rpm reaches high levels.

So, it appears that my car has a delay problem with its autiomaic transmission. Could you tell me if it is fixable, and how much labor does it require to fix, how it could be fixed, and how much it would cost if I take my car to a car repair station ?

Thank you.

I had the same problem. Car wouldn't shift until 4-5000 RPM and this was an intermittent problem, which usually started after the car was run for a while (over a couple hours). The shop couldn't find any codes and so, I neglected this problem. Well...the other day, my car started bucking / hesitating between gears. I brought it in the shop and they told me I had to have a new transmission put in. Since my 2001 Audi A4 2.8 with 117000 miles didn't warrant spending 7000, I opted for a used transmission for $4000. It's still in the shop...

Fist thing to do is change the transmission fluid and filter. Audi says the transmissions have lifetime fluid, but that's bull - change it first and see if that helps. If not, have the car scanned by a shop and have the chassis codes looked into. If there's a true electrical control problem, there should be at least one code stored (which may not trip the check-engine light).

SOUND LIKE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING. CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL.IF FLUID LEVEL OKAY BUT FLUID LOOKS DARK SMELL BURNT.CHANGE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER ADD SOME VALVE BODY TREATMENT TO LOOSEN STICKEN SHIFT VALVES.ADD TO TRANSMISSION FLUID DONT OVER FILL TRANSMISSION WILL CAUSE OVERHEAT. IF TRANSMISSION FLUID GOOD FILTER ALREADY BEEN CHANGED.IF ALL GOOD ENGINE BEEN TUNED UP OTHER POSSIBLE CAUSES FOR TRANSMISSION SLIPPING NOT GOING TO OVER DRIVE COULD BE THROTTLE SHIFT CABLE OUT ADJUSTMENT OR STRETCHED. TORQUE CONVERTER FAULTY OR SHIFT VALVES TO TORQUE CONVERTER OR OVER DRIVE STUCK IN VALVE BODY. VALVE BODY FAULTY. AND HAVE VECHICLE SCANNED FOR FAULTY VECHICLE SPEED SENSOR OR FAULTY THROTTLE CONTROL MODULE OR FAULTY THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. THEY WILL EFFECT TRANSMISSION SHIFT TO OVER DRIVE IF FAULTY.

How do i change transmission fluid on audi a4 1.8t 1997?

Drain fluid with drain plug on bottom of pan.Remove pan and change filter. Reinstall pan with new gasket torque to factory spec.Have car on level ground.Remove fill plug on side of pan.Install new fluid with pump and hose. You can use old gear oil bottle and hose.Fill to bottom of fill hole. Put foot on brake with car running shift though all gears.Go back to fill plug and top off till it runs out hole. This should do it.

1996 audi a4 transmission hard shifting

Get the transmission scanned at the dealership. If it has incorrect gear ratio code stored, it needs a transmission. Only the torque convertor or valve body can be replaced for any repairs at the dealership, so it needs to be diagnosed correctly. Any authorized ZF transmission repair shop can also repair them, more than the Audi dealerships can, so thats another alternative.

Bad transmmision

How do you know it's bad? There's a lot of things that can happen that will cause the transmission to behave in ways it shouldn't. Is it automatic? If it's not shifting right, it could be a number of things. Is it a manual? There could be a lot of things that cause trouble there. Post more info on what it is and how it's supposedly bad, and we can go from there.
