it needs to have the rear expansion valve to be inspected for metal, if clean repl expansion valve and recharge a/c

you could just be low on freon. Add 1 can & see what happens.
Usually the rear works but not the front. I'm assuming the blower works back there.

It could also be the rear control for hot/cold. You can get an assembly at slavage yard for $10.

you need to replace the brake light sockets. The little springs wear out and then there is no tension against the bulb contacts. Do not buy used sockets. Bad too.Buy on ebay cheap.But check with a Mercury dealer first to see if there is an open recall for this issue on your van. They will need your 17 digit VIN and can do on the phone. If you are talking about headlights, they flash on & off when there is a short circuit so you can see while you are getting off road. You don't want them to just go out.

Find the short. You didn't install high intensity bulbs that draw a lot of current did yo?
