Question about 2005 Ford Explorer

2005 Ford Explorer XLT

Have a Ford Explorer 41K, when put in reverse it engages with a delay and a jolt. Is this a common problem, something wrong with the transfer case, costly repair.

In drive the transimision works very smooth and without any problems.

    SAME THING--(28,000 MI.)

TECH SAYS REAR DIFFERENTIAL SPUN A BEARING.

IT'S COVERED BY EXTENDED WARRANTY, SO I DON'T KNOW REPAIR COST.

Have the same problems with a 2005 Expl V8 5-speed automatic. Sometimes will 'slam' into reverse and slips while upshifting in the mid-gears. Not all the time, but seems to be happening more frequently now... especially when vehicle has been driven a while.

In reverse there is sometimes a delay, followed by a lurch. It sometimes goes out and back into reverse when idling in reverse with the brake on.

My 2005 ford explorer 4x4 xlt (v8 4.6 ltr)has trouble code p2106. what does this trouble code mean?

P2106 is an informational code and is usually set by some other fault.

This DTC means is that the PCM detected a fault with the electronic throttle control and went into fail safe mode. It doesn't tell you specifically what system or component went haywire, just that something was wrong, the PCM didn't know what to do so it went to a known good operating parameter, in this case fail safe mode. Likely is a problem with the TPS sensor and will need to be replaced.

Hope this helps.

Might want to check the trans fluid for level and cleanliness. This would be my 1st thought, even though the OM has something like a 100K service interval.

Cant tell if my front axles are locking in . the light on the dashboard works . the transfer case locks in its a 1996 ford explorer xlt

considering its winter the best way is to put some thing in front of front tires and try to move forwards if you cant put it in 4 wheel mode and then try it. if you climb over then axles are engaged.

Low pressure in the system and the clutch will not engage. The low pressure sensor is on it for a reason.

4wd not engaging no indicater lgt basicaly no 4wd

I had a prolem with my 1998 Ford Explorer XLT. The 4wd indicator light would randomly start to blink while moving and when I flipped the switch to 4wd hi or low it would engage but easily disengage and the indicator lights would not come on. I was hearing a grinding sound coming from my hubs so I replaced both front hub assemblies and the light stopped blinking and 4wd hi/low works great now. it was about 300 bucks for the hub assemblies and only took me an hour or two to change.
