1992 Ford Explorer Power Windows Will Not Work

When I press the window buttons, I can hear the motor spinning, but the windows will not go up or down. I can pull them up and down by hand, but they will not work with the switch. I can hear a knocking sound. Problem... I don't have the money to just buy 20 different things. I am looking for advice as to what it could possibly be before I go and buy anything. Many, many thanks!

My driver's side front window won't let up. Pulled the door panel off and the window was off trac. Looks like an epoxy was used to hold the glass in the trac. I put some more epoxy on the trac and placed window glass in and let it up to set over night. Hope this holds.

A fiarly common problem on cars of this age, and in most cases they all go pretty much at the same time.

The problem is the overrun clutch in the motor gearbox. You can buy remanufactured units for about $65 each. (Window Lift Gear Kit) Look them up on the net.

You have to pull out the old regulator by removing the back window track, pull out the window, and then remove all the bolts and drill out the rivets holding the unit in place. You will need to drive out the center of the rivets using a punch, and then drill through them with about 1/4" drill.

(It's a lot easier and cleaner to cut around the old vapour barrier, (plastic sheeting), and then tape it back into place afterwards than it is to try to peel it off).

Hold the regulator in a vice to prevent the spring unwinding suddenly. Remove the motor/gearbox assembly from the regulator. remove the gearbox cover and clean out the bits of the old clutch. Spend the time to get all the bits out of the motor worm drive, but don't be tempted to remove the motor from the housting unless you are confident that you can reassemble the mortor brushes, (not easy). It helps to use a spray of WD40 or some solvent with a long nozzle to wash out the old grease and bits from behind the worm drive shaft.

Install the new gear kit and use plenty of grease supplied in the kit. Re install the regulator using 10mm or 1/4" nuts, bolts and washers in place of the old rivets.

1992 Explorer automatic windows not working

the window has jumped off track. Take a flat head screwdriver and pop off the panel inside the door. Be careful when the panel pops off if you dont catch it it may tear the wires for your PWPL controls.

I bought a 1994 ford mustang v 6 and the power windows dont work you press the button and i hear a noise then i have to press down or pull up to get the windows up or down and the power seat doesnt work...

Two unrelated problems. If you can hear the window motor running, but you have to manually pull the window up or down, it needs a window regulator. Check the fuse for the power seat. If its good, you can the connector at the motor under the seat to see if its getting power.

My '02 Ford Taurus SES windows won't roll down

Power windows are wired through their own relay which is usually located in the fuse box. If you don't have faulty switches in your window system I would have the relay checked out.

If you cannot operate any of the power windows and you lost power on all at the one time it is most unlikely that the motors are faulty.

The gears in the motors are stripped. You will need gear kits that you can purchase at a local auto parts store. Good luck.

If you can not hear the window motors running when trying to put window up or down, then the window may be off track. It is probably the window motors needs to be replaced. You can find them at a junk yard for about $50 each...Also check your fuse panel to see if you have a bad fuse...

Sounds like a motor, or a s stuck mechanism. Either way the door panel must come off and this is no easy task.
