Question about 2000 Kia Sportage

1 Answer

My Kia just died on me.

At first it wasn't getting any gas and then it just went dead. When you try to crank it, it will get fire but not fuel. I have changed the fuel pump and the fuel filter, what could be wrong?

I accidentally posted my problem under solution; however I solved mine, the wire between the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump has too much resistance, so I'm going to replace it.

    SOLUTION

I found my problem; it is the wire between the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump, it has too much resistance, I'm going to replact the one affected wire.

Cranking HARD ?
No Cranking ?
Smell Gas ?
Cranks Fast ?
POSSIBLE - * Battery dead or weak (alternator may not be charging right or gone bad) . * No fire coil pack(s) / rotor button distributor cap Faulty . * Cranks fast ( getting fire but no gas )
FIXES - * JUMP START IF POSSIBLE and if car starts take off 1 battery cable if car dies the ALTERNATOR IS BAD . * Pull 1 plug wire off and check for a hot spark or any spark for that matter .
Could be multiple things with multiple fixs need more info for a more precise answer. Start with the basics POWER +/- , FUEL , AIR , FIRE
Hope this Helps , Flaming Ratchets Auto Repair

Car stalled out and died. Cranks, but wont start all of the sudden.

On an incline that you stopped on, dont under estimate that if your low on fuel it may not be picked up by the fuel pump, or your fuel pump may have went out. If you run low on fuel often or up & down hill on low fuel will cause your fuel pump to burn out premature, they even say not to run less than a qrtr tank to be safe, but todays cost in fuel usually people wait till the last minute (gallon) which puts a strain on the fuel pump as the gas cools the motor and incline and decline in roads will mimic a low tank. What doesnt make sence is you sprayed starting fluid which should have fired for a few seconds, which brings you to spark issues, check you coil pack plugs and wires, most likely coil pack over plug and wires should still fire even if a plug or wire goes bad, but the coil pack controls the power going to the wire then plugs.

2001 Kia Sportage goes dead while driving plus gas spews out when refueling

Need a little more info: Is it a V-6? Does it just die at random times? Kia has had problems with crank shaft position sensors. The vehicle will just die and may restart immediately or take several minutes till it will restart.

Engine will crank but will not turn over

our experiensces of this when all is going well - was the car ran out of gas......or stop getting gas....ensure the gas matter & pour a little gas over the carberator & give it another try or so....when you are driving & it just goes dead slowly - fuel-connected circumstances are usually the 1st problem.....

got fuel, starter working, battery ok etc. - its a fuel matter more than likely.....

REPLACE FUEL PUMP RELAY AND FUSE + CHANGE FUEL FILTER.STOPPED UP FUEL FILTER WILL CAUSE LOW POWER GOING UP HILL.IF CAR STILL DONT CRANK.ALSO CHECK FUEL INJECTORS FUSE.ALSO YOU COULD HAVE BAD GAS.

Car died and wont start

The fuel injector motor or called the Idle Air control module is not the failure. The fuel pump is overheating and dies out. Thus when letting sit a while the engine is starting up again.
I woult take vehicle to local shop and have them replace the fuel pump , I suggest not getting taken for a complete tune up. Just the fuel pump is the most cost effective way .

Briannatara:

Some questions to help in the analysis........

You say "it cranked for about 3 seconds and died as if I turned off the key" did it actually start and then die?
Have there been any clues (unusual happenings) recently that might relate to the current problem?

Is there a reason the battery went dead? was something left on? Lights, etc?

How old is the battery?

1999 Firebird cranking problem

well first the white smoke indicateds water in fuel system. if you have a strong fuel smell that would indicated that your getting way too much fuel. there are several reasons for this. it could be that the fuel pressure regulater is malfunctiong. the throttle position sensor is bad. it could also be a timing issue.
