If you live in cold enough climates then you might need an engine block heater.

How would hot plugs go in my vt99 commodore last ye asd in cold weather it took ages to start of morning had 4000 worth of stuff done to it and never fixed it thru summer its great. So what would u advise...

You really need to read the plugs that are in the car at the moment. If the porcelain around the center electrode is black or chocolate brown around the tip you could go a little hotter. This will not do much to help with cold starting in winter. You would be much better of upgrading the coil or coils and running clean plugs.

My 2007 Chevy HHR 2.2L, coolant temp sensor is reading that the coolant temp is 20 degrees warmer than the outside temp after sitting for over 12 hours and the operating temp gets to 214 degrees without...

Sure the engine coolant will be warmer than the outside temperture and if the car has been sitting a long time in cold weather and the outside temperture warms up it could be the other way around. The coolant temperture sensers aren't real accurate as they are a relaitive senser beween hot and cold and the numbers reported don't have to be real just the change from hot to cold and the reching of the coolant to the operating temperture. Noe it the senser doesn't read the opertating temperture coprrectly you'll have all kinds of problems. The therostaste will try to set the temperture of the water to it's set temperture and can open or close completly to get 195 degrees F. Many times if it's too cold then the stat is bad and needs to be replaced This shows up in alot of cars first thing after winter and the first onset of cold weather when the daily tempertures vary the most from day to night.

I have 2002 chevy avalanche, check engine light comes on only when its cold & runs rough at idle. When warmer weather light goes off & runs fine. Have replaced mass air flow sensor.

Mine did the same thing...at 42F degrees, run bad. After it warm up, it would be fine. This would only happen in the winter. It would throw a code saying it was lean in Bank 1 or 2.
The issue is a contraction of the intake gasket due to the cold weather, when it contracts, it leaks air. There is a new, improved gasket now from GM, or get a Felpro from major auto stores and it will work fine. I consistently had the problem every winter, and this has fixed the problem for the last 3-4 years.

Heater only blows luke warm air even after driving it for half hour. 1994 isuzu rodeo

Have you changed your themostat to a winter temperature range. If so it may be faulty - stuck open. Remove rad cap when cold and start eng. - (be sure rad is full) water should not start to circulate in rad until thermostat opens at its designed temperture setting as seen through rad opening.

Cost of battery

It depends on what battery you want to put in the car. That'll depend on where you live - if you're in the colder states, I'd want at least 750 cold-crank amps (CCA), so it can reliably start the car in the dead of winter. Personal preference - I love the Optima Red-Top deep cycle (dry cell) batteries. They're monsters - same size as a typical battery but huge power, great recovery time, and they seem to last forever (I had one in a car for 9 years). About $130 for it, but worth the money.
