    Trying to remove alternator. Have alternator loose but can't get it past the bracket. What do i do?

2000 Ford Ranger is killing alternators immediately after install

the best way to test an alternator is with a load test-partstores dont do that--battery may still have a bad cell even tho it tested good--an alternator can burn up charging a completely dead batt--make sure batt reads at 12.6volts and no less-----if it reads say at 12.3 its only 50% charged!

I have a 1993 taurus 3.2 ltr. engine with no idler or tentioner pulley. how do i get belt loose so i can install alternator.

there is a tensioner pully on the front of the motor you can get a wrench on and it will make it easy to put the belt on.

I bought an old car model that is toyota corolla xe 1993 model,the owner told me that this is well maintained,however, the car suddenly stopped. I have to asked someone what to do and taught me on the spot...

I would agree with the alternator diagnosis, most aftermarket alternators for this model are between $80-$130 plus the installation labor of around $100 depending on you locale.

My pontiac grand prix 2006 will not start, I just replaced the battery and a week before that I had to have my Relay module down for my low beam headlights. Not sure if it is my alternator or if I just got...

can you jump start it and when it does start and you remove the jumper cable does it begin to stumble or increase in RPM that would be thhe alternator, to check it you need a volt meter and it need to be 2 volts above 12vlts if you dont have a voltmeter then use a compass and place it near the positve terminal and it should swing that would indicate its charging if you dont have a compass can you acces thhe alternator safely with the engine running (the only problem with this is it may have a plastic cover on it) if you can and there is no platic cover on it get a scre driver and feel the middle back of it you should feel a magnetic pull if you dont you need a alternator, by the way if the battery was bad at the store and started it did you know you automatically lost the alternator a new alternator comes with a warning that the battery need to be fully charge when installing or the alternator will fail

Batter wont charge, jeep idles for about a min then dies. Need to replace alternator, but dont know how

I have the same Jeep model 5.2L V8, to replace the alternator, check the next procedure...

Once the determination is made that the alternator is at fault, off vehicle testing can be used to determine the defective component inside the alternator.
See Figures 1 through 11
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the drive belt.
  3. If necessary, remove any splash shielding for easier access to the alternator.

  1. Tag and disengage the alternator wiring.
It may be necessary to remove the alternator and mounting bracket from the vehicle as an assembly.
  1. If equipped, remove the front alternator assembly mounting plate.

  1. Unfasten the alternator mounting and pivot bolts and remove the alternator.
  2. If installing the original alternator assembly, push out the pivot bushing as illustrated.

To install:

  1. Mount the alternator to the brackets with the nuts and bolts. Tighten the two mounting bolts and nuts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
  2. If the alternator and mounting bracket were removed as an assembly, install the assembly into the vehicle.
  3. If removed, install the front mounting plate.
  4. Engage the alternator electrical connections.
  5. If removed, install the splash shield.
  6. stall the drive belt and attach the negative battery cable.

How can i remove the alternator from a 2002 gmc safari i allready remove the air filter but i dont know how to loose the band?

use a ratchet without any socket on the idler/tensioner pulley, this will loosen the tension on the belt to be able to remove it. after that, it's easier to remove the alternator with the braket still on, that bracket has a few long bolts 3-4 to remove, the, disconnect wires from alternator. installation is reverse procedure as always

Dont know how to get the belt back on, is there a slacken point that i am un aware of on my ford escort 1.6 zetec 1999

which belt are you trying to install? alternator (outside engine) or cam inside the front cover

yes it is about a four hour job and I would see if I could get access to a 3/8 air rachet and air compresser it would make the job faster and try or for any helpful diagrams and step by step instructions or the local library
