2005 Mercury Mountaineer shuts off

While driving my Mountaineer just shuts off. You can crank it back up. We have tried different gas and also put injector cleaner in but it still does it. Is intermittent. Don't know when it will do it.

This problem has baffled the dealer because it is so intermittent. There are no trouble codes. I have had the "flight recorder" installed, but it didn't occur while I had it attached. The conditions for it to occur are this: Ambient temperature over 40 degrees, coming off of a hill. Doesn't happen all of the time. I just knock it up to neutral and restart. Always restarts. I'm thinking a balky MAP sensor. It's driving me crazy and is potentially dangerous.

Could be a number of things and the information is a little vague. Does it do it when cold, warm, after driving for a distance etc. It might pay to have some one run a diagnostic machine on it. The cost for the test could actually save you money. Just make sure they have a good reputation.

Why car wont crank, but can smell gas

IT IS LOOKS LIKE A FUEL PRESSURE LEAKING INSIDE THE ENGINE OR DEFECTIVE FUEL INJECTOR LEAKING . TRY DISCONNECTING THE FUEL PUMP RELAY. AND CRANK THE ENGINE IF ALWAYS CRANK WITH OUT OF FUEL (CRANK WITHOUT START) YOU HAVE FUEL LEAK INSIDE THE ENGINE
REMOVE THE INJECTORS RAIL UP EVERYTHING CONNECTED,PUT BACK THE FUEL PUMP RELAY TURN THE SWITCH ON AND FIND WICH ONE IS LEAKING. (GASOLINE IS FLAMMABLE TAKE CARE)

Use a bottle of yellow HEET dry gas to remove any moisture problem in the fuel.

Use starting fluid to aid starting.

There is a vent hose that comes from the tank back to the filler neck, it could also be the filler neck hose. Might be kinked or seperated.

Why does my 2005 mountaineer die when I stop or slow?

The stall problem could be a faulty idle air control valve or dirty throttle body. The computer uses the valve to adjust base idle speed depending on the load on the engine.

2000 mercury mountaineer jerks when driving

thinking here honest i am but - iam thinking that whoever done this work for you has taken money under false pretences as they didnt cure the problem and they should have known what was wrong before they tampered with this vehicle, now a europeon mechanic who know nothing about these cars so try a direct a question to emmisionwiz as hes a ford mechanic so he should have a better idea than me on this but have you re-gassed the AC by anychance recently and put too much gas in the system as this will cause the vehicle to **** but other than that ni idea without my head under the bonnet

Shuts off while driving on the highway. I pull over put it in park and it starts right back up

Do you get a trouble indication?
Ford products have Coils On Plugs that are problematic. I have a 2005 Lincoln and had the same problem (only my dash light came on); it cost me $1500 to have all of my COP's replaced. You should get check engine that will tell them which one is bad.
You don't have to put the car in park to reset the system, just put in Neutral, shut engine off, restart, put car in Drive.
