Only way i can think of is to remove the center grill so you can get at the mechanism but it means braking it im afraid you cannot get at it any other way

SOURCE: Hood Won't Open, and Lever Broke

Hi viper852004 , the only way you can do this is to remove the front grills and then you will be able to see the 2 sprung bonnet pegs, you will need to loosen the adjusting nut where it screws into the hood and unscrew it until it becomes unattatched from the hood, do this for both pegs and then you should be able to release the hood to fix the problem. the pegs will need to be reinstalled before driving the car as the hood will not close, hope this is of some help, regards mark.

SOURCE: hood latch won't release

This has happened to me several times, this will take two people, but all you need to do is have one person pull the hood release, while person number 2 pushes down on the hood, and then pulls up...that ought to do the trick

How do I pop the hood of a 2004 Mercedes clk320 when the battery is dead?

The hood release is not affected by the battery. Under the dashboard on the driver's side there is a small pull lever that releases the main latch for the hood.
Open the car door wide and put your head in the foot well and look up. The lever will have a marker on it like the first attached picture.
When pulled the hood should 'pop' open. Move to the front of the car and look between the slots in the front grill. There should be a pull tag, (picture 2), to release the second latch.
When you re-close the hood push 'Both' sides of the hood down as it can flex and not lock properly.

How can I open the hood of a '97 Jeep Cherokee when the rod that pops open the latch is disconnected under the hood?

some times pulling the cable sheath from the side as person 2 pulls lever gets it open (not snapped cable, but stretched)
well , that can be hard. (snapped)
its just a cable. so the tech looks at that.
he sees if the center wire in said cable is broken. is it?
i remove it from lever and pull just it (center) open now?
no, we find it pulls out, and is say 2 foot long. 1/2 normal.
he may see , yes, it is then asks self where exactly
he finds it broken say in the middle. so gains access to that point
and cuts the cable there there , and skins back the sheath,
then pulls the good side center wire, and opens the latch.
now he replaces the cable.
and calibrates it per those words in the FSM.

it has 3 fail modes.
  1. lever broken
  2. cable broken or streatched
  3. or latch broken or needs calibration (adjusted to spec).

the only magic here is the yanking cable at mid span.
while BOB pulls lever. (bob is common mechanics name,a joke?)

How can I get someone to fix a hood latch that won't open?

I have seen instances like this and it was the cable that leads from the hood release latch to the lever that operates the bonnet that is worn out. If it's 2001 or older crv, try pushing the latch forward while having someone moving the bonnet in an open and close motion. If it's a 2002 or later model....makes sure the release latch it in the pull position the have someone try to yank open the bonnet....it's better to repair a bent hook/lever than to cut the entire bonnet off.

Best of luck,
Romone.

Hood won t close

Check out the cable connection between the latch and your internal latch control. Till you locate the problem I would suggest tying down the hood with some sort of strap so it does not pop open at speed.

How do i open the hood.

there should be a lever that is on the bottom edge of dash that is under the steering wheel along the trim. if the handle is broken you can use pliers to grab the cable and pull it to get the hood to realse. if you found all that and i seems to work ok then when pulling the release lever have a friend hit or shake the hood to get it to pop up a little so that you can open it all the way.

Where is the latch for opening the hood ?

The red release latch is down under the dash on the extreme left hand side. A release tongue should stick out from the radiator grill when the latch is opened. Pulling on this tongue will release the hood When you open the hood the angle is initially restricted to about 45 degrees which is fine for minor jobs. If you need extra room, the left hand hinge has a latch pin which can be swung inwards to allow the hood to move up to about 50 degrees. Releasing the second latch pin on the right hand hinge allows the hood to go vertical. You will have to release the left hand hinge latch pin to close the hood.

Hood wire is out from the latch at the hood end...how to open the hood (1997 Honda accord)

first, try smacking the hood at one of the front corners while someone else pulls the release handle. or even after you've pulled on it. if that works, once open, adjust and lubricate the hood latch assembly. if it still won't open, and it's the cable and not the latch you'll have to replace it anyway, so instead of removing the grill, cut the cable behind the pull lever under the dash where you can reach it. then skin the outer cable insulation away from the actual steel cable exposing an inch or two of it. then holding the insulation and plastic housing with pliers, grab the steel cable itself with pliers and pull it to open the hood. then replace the cable. the further you can reach up under the panel the better your chances of getting past the broken part of the cable and avoid removing the grill. you might also be able to gain access from up under the car if you're lucky.
