SOURCE: 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee leaking coolant and power steering fluid

Just a heads up, $10 bucks will buy you a seal kit for the P.S. pump. I topped mine off for a couple months, then the oring on the high pressure line (from pump, front center) blew and dumped the reservoir in a matter of miles.

The line can be a stinker to get off, recommend driving the car for a few minutes to heat up the pump a little. Don't forget the 20MM wrench.

SOURCE: mercedes benz c200 (w202)gearbox fault

There is a special additive lubricant for gear transmission to solve this problem. Just add on to gear oil. I had the same problem. now ok.

the steering rack needs to be replaced..the fan has nothing to do with the rack so that's some "other issue" but it isn't related to the steering.

Merc c200 steering wheel is hard when turning to the right, but softer when turnig to the left

firstly disconnect the track rod ends from suspension and turn each suspension unit on its own to check for tightness ,then lower front suspension onto some stands and try again ,if both sides still move freely then you need a new steering rack as the spool valve inside the rack is faulty

Changeing a power steering pump

CHANGING POWER STEERING PUMP YOU HAVE TO PLACE A DRAIN PAN UNDER THE VECHICLE. SIPHON OUT POWER STEERING FLUID WITH A SIPHONER DONT USE YOUR MOUTH TO SIPHON SWALLOWING POWER STEERING FLUID CAN BE FATAL MAKE YOU SICK.WHEN ALL POWER STEERING FLUID IS REMOVED FROM POWER STEERING PUMP.REMOVE DRIVE BELT.THEN REMOVE THE POWER STEERING PUMP.THEN YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE POWER STEERING PUMP PULLEY THE NEW POWER STEERING PUMP DONT HAVE A PULLEY YOU HAVE TO HAVE REMOVE PULLEY FROM THE OLD POWER STEERING PUMP.YOU NEED A PUMP PULLEY REMOVER AND A PULLEY INSTALLER.YOU CAN TAKE OLD POWER STEERING PUMP AND NEW POWER STEERING PUMP TO A MACHINE SHOP.THEY WILL REMOVE PULLEY OFF OLD PUMP PRESS IT ON NEW POWER STEERING PUMP.THAT WOULD BE CHEAPER THAN BUYING THE PULLER AND INSTALLER.GO TO AUTO PARTS STORE BUY NEW HIGH PRESSURE LINE O RING GOES TO PRESSURE LINE GOING INTO POWER STEERING PUMP.ONCE YOU GET NEW PUMP READY PULLEY BEEN PRESSED ON.TAKE POWER STEERING PUMP HOME PUT IT ON. BLEED POWER STEERING SYSTEM.WHAT YOU DO WHEN YOU GET NEW PUMP INSTALLED HIGH PRESSURE LINE IN PLACE.PUMP BOLTED IN DRIVE BELT ON POUR POWER STEERING FLUID IN POWER STEERING PUMP UNTIL FLUID LEVEL STOP DROPPING AND YOUR LEVEL ON POWER STEERING DIP STICK AT COLD LEVEL.NOW START CAR UP LET IT IDLE FOR 3 MINUTES.THEN TURN OFF ENGINE CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID IF FLUID LEVEL DROP ADD LITTLE MORE UNTIL LEVEL ON DIP STICK ON COLD MARK DONT OVER FILL.NOW SAFELY RAISE SUPPORT FRONT OF VECHICLE. START THE ENGINE.TURN STEERING WHEEL FROM ALL THE WAY FROM LEFT TO RIGHT DONT STOP LOCK WHEEL .GO LEFT TO RIGHT SEVERAL TIMES.THEN TURN OFF ENGINE CHECK FLUID LEVEL.IF ALL IS GOOD LET VECHICLE BACK DOWN LET IT SIT FOR A WHILE CHECK FLUID AGAIN.DONT DRIVE VECHICLE IF POWER STEERING PUMP MAKE NOISES OR YOUR STEERING FEEL STIFF HARD TO TURN.JUST MAKE SURE FLUID LEVEL RIGHT AND DRIVE BELT TIGHT GOOD LUCK.

Power stearing not working. merc s500 2000.

Hi, your problem could be down to a couple of things so try the following,
1 check the fluid in the steering pump resevoir if you look under the bonnet you will see the power steering pump and the bottle you need to fill up it should have steering written on it, check the level and top up if needed.
2 check the belt is still connected to the steering pump have a look and make sure the belt has not snapped that drives the pump its the belt that drives the alternator etc but the pump may have seperate belt but it will be the same side as the alternator.
3, if after doing the above and the belt is ok then this would indicate the pump is no longer working and if this is the case then your going to need to get the pump replaced, doing this will solve your problem.

2005 Mercedes C230 w/ Kompressor

it seems your have a power steering problem. it could be a simple fix by checking the power steering resevoir for proper fluid level. it also be that the steering pump is failing. the most troublesome is that the rack and pinion unit is the fault. first thing to check is the fluid resevoir if it's low fill to proper level and start the vehicle. turn the steering wheel all the way left and hold till you hear a light squeal, then turn to the right and hold till you hear the squeal. do this several times. this is to make sure there is no air in the system. you should be able to turn the wheel and it should be smooth with no hesitation. if this doesn't solve the problem, then you must take it to a shop to have the pump replaced if it is the fault or the rack and pinion............please rate the solution...thanks
