My 2002 dodge durango slt does not start up. When we put the key in the igintion -- nothing happens. The lights come on and the window works, but the car does not start.

Check the fuses or breakers. However, the BCM may be the issue. Especially if your vehicle allowed you to roll them up after the key was shut off but before the door was opened. BCM units are not cheap.
with no bus, that is power to or from the pcm. try wiggling the 3 plugs at the pcm with the key on. if you see lights change, or hear the bing, that would most likely be the pcm.
there are three buttons on the opener.hold the 2 outside ones down for 25 to 30 seconds to erase the program. once the light (if equipped)flash rate changes,let go.
then push any one of the the three buttons and hold it in. and then push your remote. when the flash rate changes,the code is now in the homelink transmitter.the slt and slt plus had that feature.
