Possibly low on refrigerant. When system is low on freon, it does not build up enough high side pressure to engage the condenser fan . When pressure is high enough. a high side pressure switch kicks on the cond. fan to maintain high side pressure. Have the system evacuated and recharged to proper level.
Near the firewall you have both air cond pipes coming out. There is a black cap on the larger of the two alum pipes. It is under the air filter housing and should be able to see it without removing the air filter housing. That is the low pressure side. The high pressure should run along the chassis rail and near the radiator there is another black cap on a smaller alum pipe. Remember always yes always vacumm the air cond system for at least 3 hours to dry out the air cond system correctly. If you don't if will only work for a short time before playing up again. Some shops don't do this and wonder why a car keeps coming back for more gas. Good for them bad for customer.
The newer cars have 2 ports. The large port which is the high side and small port, low side. The kit you buy to refill the air cond will fit only one of the ports and that's the small port. You don't want to hook up on the high side so, this is why ports are sized and the gauge will only fit one. The low side should be near the evaporator or on the evaporator.
www.aa1car.com/library/ac_recharging This is a great web site to look at for your air cond. needs. It's easier for you to see and read than to explain the in and outs. It's very easy to recharge. Just remember to use the low side port which usually the hose will fit on to only one fitting to your air cond. You do not want to hook up to the high side even if it were possible.
