Question about 1996 Saab 900

1 Answer

1996 Saab 900s 2.3 injected mod

I was driving today in the rain and my wipers stopped working and then noticed the turning singles would not work and the electric windows to where not working too.

Maybe you would know where to look for problem.

I have not checked fuses yet but feel these three things would have separate fuses and sounds like a bad main power concentrator or a bad earth to this area in the system.

Anyway hope you can put me into the right place to start.

Cheers from

    Yes thanks Jeff
I can use the wire diagram as I do not have a manual as of yet.

Just went out to check out what you where saying. There was no water under carpet and I found a spot where I put my fingers under a bit in the dash. No sign of water dry as a bone.

The knee panel you mention. Is this the large panel just under the driver side dash looks like about five or six screws holding it giving me access to up under steering section.

When I turned on the power every thing is working again. I did notice when driving home the blinker was on and it blinked once. So I think this would be a bad earth or main power to this section of items not working.

Yes I will have to check this out further so it dose not happen at a bad time.

Thank you for your help and really appreciated.

Pull the drivers knee bolster and check for water under the dash and carpets, second remove the single to-rx screw holding the relay panel in place pull it down and be sure all the relays are tight wiggle them around i have gotten bad connections here that caused similar problems also check all the connectors under there and every plug into the back of the fuse relay panel, if that leads you no where you need to get a wiring diagram for each of these circuits and find their common place such as a ground or relay power please rate i will try to find my repair cd for these diagrams -jeffbest of luck and i will be back with diagrams -jeff

How do i get my key out of a 1996 saab 900

As part of the safety/theft detterent system, most SAABs will only allow key removal when YOU PUT THE (manual) TRANSMISSION IN REVERSE. Not sure how it would work with an automatic transmission. If yours is a manual transmission, give that a try. I had a 1992 SAAB 900S convertible. Ran like a raped ape but the A/C gave out on us. Miss the old girl though.

Hope this helps!

Replacing ignition switch on Saab 1996 900s 2.3 I 5 speed

You take all the center console and plastic ducts from between the seats. There are 4 10mm bolts holding the shifter mechanism to the floor. Take these off and do your best to flip the whole housing to where you can access the bottom side. The ignition switch is attached under there. As I recall there are 2 T20 screws holding it on.
