SOURCE: Check Engine light & slight hesitation

I had the exact same problem. The mechanic found a spark plug that was leaking on the back of the engine that was a pin to get to.

He replaced all plugs and wires and I no longer have this problem, so you may be onto something with the plug wire being loose.

thank you for responding, I went back to basics. New plugs began corroding on#3 & #7 cyl, causing a short(missfires).Tested the coil packs,& I recalled #3 cyl head was cracked, it was replaced with rebuilt head. As for the oil gauge flucuating, crank shaft bearings pitted and worn on #3 & #7cyl, due to the coolant(an apperantcommon problem..I took the truck in for an oil change,a ctc rookie put 5w30 instead of 10w30 as requested,in which caused the oil pressure to fluctuate. I dumped the the oil put 10w30 in and some lucas. 2 weeks later no ticking noises and no oil pressure changes.thankgod for lucus. its too cold to roll a set of bearings in the driveway. thanks again for your input. p s a 1997 f150 4.6ltr come with 2 sizes of serpentine belts, be careful of which one you install, we blew the bearings out of 2 new waterpumps, and for the last tip, the dealership uses a pair of vicegrips and an extra helping hand to set up the timing chains, that is what i was suggested to do by there top engine tech. prove me wrong. works like a charm.

Try putting somw SEAFOAM into your tank. It either your O2-sensor, or EGR-valve. Alot of the time, SEAFOAM will clean these sensor up????

Hi my 1998 Nissan micra k11 fuel gauge keeps fluctuating changes the sensor in the tank still the same

In a conventional system the tank sensor provides a variable ground path for the gauge which is fed by a stable regulated voltage from the instrument regulator. Sometimes the regulator will fail and cause a fluctuating voltage supply depending on engine speed, whether the lights are on or off and suchlike. Mostly such fluctuations, if they seem random, are caused by a less-than-perfect connection somewhere, mostly the fuel tank ground connection. Newer systems use a computer to drive the instruments but excellent connections are equally important..

Why is temp gauge fluctuating while driving car is not hot.

Check the coolant level. Sometimes when the coolant level is low, it will cause gauge fluctuations like you suggest, since air is getting into the cooling system. When air is in the system, it causes the thermostat to open and close frequently resulting is wild temp gauge swings.

I'd start by replacing fuel filter. I'm assuming it's been recently tuned.... If not, replace plugs, wires, all fluid & filters and run a good fuel system cleaner through it.

The rpm go up an down

Change your coolant temperature sensor for the computer.(not the one for the temperature gauge). They are located one beside the other, under the distributor cap.The parts supplier will know which one you need. When you start the car cold it usually idles 1800 to 2000 rpm for a minute or so and as the resistance starts to decrease, the rpm drops.after a couple minutes the rpm goes to 1000 rpm.People that are in the habit of driving the car right away at 2000 rpm are putting a huge stress on the axles, and find that they are replacing them every 100000 km.It also wears out your brakes faster .When the sensor goes bad,it causes a fluctuating idle .

Engine bk firering & lose of compression.

Backfiring after warming up can be from many things.

One that comes to mind is carbon deposits on valves, causing them to not close properly. The carbon deposits would also heat up and then ignite air/fuel mixtures before the spark plug can fire.
Or you would have hot exhaust gasses leaking back into the cylinder on intake and that would ignite the fuel.

Tac gauge fluctuating, and engine running rough on acceleration could be a vacuum leak, do you hear a hissing sound when the engine is running? listen closely under the hood. If you have a vacuum leak you would lose power and your RPM would fluctuate oddly. As for the backfire however, there are probably more than just one problem. Its hard to say for sure.

So please, more details, noises you hear, when exactly everything happens etc.
What speed and RPM the engine begins to bog down at, does it stall? What range is ur tac fluctuating at? anything you can think of, throw it on there.

Hope this helps you

Check gauges and Check Engine Lights

The sending unit for the oil guage will cause the oil guage to fluctuate this is caused from some sludge build up that is more than likely stuck in the sending unit tube. Use Gunk motor flush on your next oil change this should help the oil guage problem.( make sure you read the direction on the back of the bottle)
As for the check engine light you can take it to Auto Zone and have them scan the computer. Sometimes the EGR valve will build up with carbon causing the valve to stick slightly open which will make the idle on the car fluctuate up and down. Its also possible you need O2 sensors.
