It's probably air bound. In my 51 years of working on cars I've never heard of a special way to add coolant.
I just put some in the radiator or the container, start the engine, wait for the thermostat to open, then fill it, leave the cap off so it won't get air bound while it's running.
If there is a bleeder valve on top of the thermostat housing, open that until there is a steady stream of coolant coming out, then close it and refill system.
If it still over heats, you might have a clogged radiator.

2002 Dodge Durango barely any heat in front and none at all in rear system Replaced thermostat already still not any better Thinking about a pressurized flush or heater core replacement any ideas on best...

Do a reverse flush on the hoses leading to the heater core. under the hood there are 2 hoses side by side on the fire wall, find the other ends and detach them, get a garden hose and back wash the core in reverse, so you will want to blow water threw the right hose first!
as for no heat in the rear well that's different it has a separate heater core, but under the hood again there is a small electric pump that helps feed the rear heater. good luck.

95 Fleetwood Cadillac no heat changed water pump and thermostat. The heater core is not bypassed and car stays defrosted help me see why no heat is blowing out. The fan works but no heat

Sounds like a air lock in interior heater core, remove one heater hose under hood and make sure you have flow through heater core. Some vehicles have a valve that controls coolant flow through heater, check on hose for that if no coolant comming out of inter heater hoses.

2004 chevy 3500 van has rear heater and it works fine the front heat blows cold replaced thermostat and hot water shut off valve is there a module that opens a door for the heat if so where is at

I know on an astro van there is a heater valve under the hood on the passenger side. check the cables or vaccum lines going to the heater valve under the hood. If there is a module it will be mounted to the heater suit case under the right side of the dash
