Question about 1998 Toyota Celica

98 celica convertible key question

I cannot get the trunk to lock so that the trunk open level next to the driver seat won't open it. I have only one key so I suspect that the key I am missing is different in some way.

How do I disable the interior trunk lock lever?

I was given a silver key. I also went to the dealer and had a master key replacement made. They both do the same thing and neither locks the trunk to disable the lever. Both will open the trunk by inserting and turning to the right 90 degrees.

  • baackerman Sep 13, 2008

Both keys open the trunk and neither key will turn the lock to the left. The dealer says the key they made is the Master key.

  • baackerman Sep 13, 2008

This is in my manual too. Problem is, it says, "except convertible".

  • baackerman Sep 13, 2008

Thanks. I have no key that will turn it counter clockwise.

Is the key that you have a genuine Toyota key? If so, is the key Black or Grey? If you have the grey key, you only have the "valet" key, and it will not do what you want. You need the Black key. Put the black key in the trunk and turn it 90 degrees & remove it. This controls the inside lever on/off for the trunk. The key hole will either be horizontal or verticle. One way lets the inside lever work, the other position stops it.

If you key opens the trunk, you have a master key. Look at the trunk lock, Is the keyhole horizontal or verticle? Insert the key & turn it 90 degrees to the left. Try the inside release. The position of the keyhole determines if the interior relase will work or not. Please advise.

This is a page from the 98 celica owner's manual

    —Lock release lever

To open the trunk lid or back door from

the driver’s seat, pull up on the lock

    release lever.

    —Luggage security system

This system deactivates the lock release

lever so that things locked in the

trunk or luggage compartment can be

    protected.

    1. (Except convertible) Push down the

security lock levers to lock the rear

    seatbacks.

After locking the rear seatbacks, try folding

them down to make sure they are

    securely locked, otherwise someone could

get into the trunk or luggage compartment

by folding down a rear seat.

    2. After closing the trunk lid or back

door, insert the master key and turn

    it counterclockwise to deactivate the

    lock release lever.

After closing the trunk lid or back door,

try pulling it up to make sure it is securely

    locked.

That just pertains to the rear seat backs.

Convertibles to not have rear seat backs that fold down.

YES.
Crawl into the back and remove all of the screws that hold the back plastic panel on.

the back seat is removed by pulling up the rear seat front cushion.
Then you get access to the seat back.
There are 2 12 mm bolts that hold the seat back AND the side arm rest.Lower arm rest bolts are at the bottom. 12 mm.
Tie the seat belts back.
The seat back bolts are at the bottom. 12 mm.

B-4 you try that ordeal......
Use lock eaze on the lock cylinder.

How to pen 1994 chevy corsica trunk with jammed trunk lock

if the key won`t turn in the lock then there is to ways to go about it.one is you may be able to get to the lock by going through the rear seat(removal) and try to get into the trunk or use a dent puller and screw it into the lock and pull the lock out,the use a screw driver to open the trunk by inserting it into the mechanism and turning.you can have a new lock keyed to the original key and you may have to get a new locking clip that holds the lock in the trunk.

How do i open the truk of my 98 toyota corrola?

There is a lever to open the trunk next to the fuel door lever under the left front side of the driver seat.

If the lever is broken or missing, check if the back seats recline, allowing access to the trunk. Crawl in and pull the lever going to the lock cylinder.

If neither suggestion works, call a locksmith.

2004 TOYOTA COROLLA TRUNK

I have a corolla 2003 and I had the same problem. I turned the key to the left and the lock turned left, engaging the valet parking mechanism. I could not turn the key to the right and could not get access to the trunk because the lever next to the driver seat was disengaged.
The way I solved this problem is as follow:on the back driver seat I pulled the back seat forward to leave an opening and snick my arm in the trunck. Then I grabbed the cable used to latch the seat and I pulled forward, i.e. toward the front of the car. The cable is connectred to the trunck so that it can be disconnected easily if pulled towards the front. If you pull towards the back it will remain attached to the trunck. So grab the cable an pull towards the front, and it will release itself. Since the cable is flexible, you can pull it out of the trunk from the same the opening you put your arm, and then disenagage the driver back seat. Fold forward the back seat and get into the trunk and use the lever in the latch of the trunck to open it. The turnk will open.

If the lock does not turn, you need to disconnect the lock from the mechanism, so that the driver seat lever can start working again. To do this, and with the trunk open, remove the cover holded by nine plastic pins. Do not break the pins. After removing the cover, you will see the lock holded by two nuts. Remove the nuts with a rachet. The lock will be loose, and disconnect the lever that connects the lock to the latch. At this point the driver seat lever will start working again. Close the trunk and verify that the driver seat lever opens the trunk. Now you can open and close the trunk , and have time to call the dealer for a new lock.
Good luck.

Locked keys in trunk

I believe you can remove the back seat and get into it. Remove the lower part of the back seat first and remove attaching bolts/screws to remove the upper part of the seat.
