Re: Harmonic Balancer needs to be replaced...
The easiest way is to jack the car up and remove the right side tire. then remove the crank bolt using impact wrench. then use a 3 jaw gear puller(you can rent this tool at Napa or Oreilly's and you get your money back when you return it) to remove the balancer. the istallation is in reverse order. hope this helps.......please rate this....thanks

first you will need to remove the belt. then you might have to remove the electric fan. (depending on what engine you have) then you will need remove the bolt from the harmonic balancer. i think its a 21 mm. then you need to get a harmonic balancer pulley puller. you can rent one at your local auto parts store. install the puller and remove the harmonic balancer. then put new one on by using the bolt. reinstall all components in reverse. this one is pretty easy to do. please rate thank you.
there is a special harmonic balancer puller (and i do mean special) don't use a regular one or you will messup the harmonic balancer you can rent the tool at autozone it's free rental,,, they charge you for the tool but you get your money back when you return the tool works great
usually all crankshaft sensors are located right next to the main drive pulley (Harmonic balancer). As far as being easy is concerned some are not so easy as some require the removal of the harmonic balancer to get to it.. but you might be lucky Gm is pretty good at making the Crankshaft sensor accessible without removing the harmonic balancer.
not really special, but, you need a harmonic balancer pulley removing tool...Lots of larger parts store either loan them out or rent them. (if you buy one you may get to use it again in five years, unless you are a tech.) Why are you taking it off?
There is a panel inside the wheel well that you can take off that gives you perfect access to the harmonic balancer. A special tool is required. i had my dad make one because he has access to whatever he needs at the factory. but you can get them at the dealer. i have no clue how much they cost. I can't see any way of doing it without the special tool. after you get the tool its pretty simple to get off. it takes alot of force to break the bolt loose though. i used the handle off my jack as a cheater bar. hope this helps...
