Question about 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera

2 Answers

Engine Belt I have a 91 olds v6 cutless cierra and my AC hasn't worked for awhile now and the Air Compresor is making alot of noice when the car is idle or moving very slowly, What i want to do is bypass the AC Compressor and just put a smaller belt on my car so that way the noice would go away. Is it possible to do that and if so what size belt can i use since the original belt for these cars are very long. Thanks

Hi there it sounds to me that the bearings are going bad on your ac/c compressor

you can bypass it by getting a smaller belt
to get a size you can take a piece of string or rope and go around the remaining pulleys like alternator power steering and crank shaft then tie a know take it to napa and have them match as close as possible then install that belt this will solve your problem until you replace the compressor
the other way is go to a salvage yard look for you make and model without a/c there will be most likely a pulley and bracket in the place of the a/c compressor
take a picture of the set up and take the pulley off including the mount bolts and then remove th compressor on your car and install the pulley and you can use the same belt

What size belt can I use to bye pass the ac compressor on a 1994 olds cutless ceira s

A better idea is to buy a free-wheeling pulley and bracket that is called an "AC delete pulley". Then you can still use the standard belt.

Google the Ac delete, or check at parts stores.

Not sure I understand the question.
You can look the part up on the auto parts websites and get a list of what models the part fits. Just about any GM product with the same engine and year will work.

For the 1991 DODGE DYNASTY - V6 3.3L 201ci GAS FI N R , review this informacion:

Remove the serpentine belt by using a breakover bar, rachet or serpentine belt removal tool with the correct size socket for the pulley mounting bolt. Rotate tensioner arm to release tension. Remove the belt.

Hope helped with this (remember rated this help) Good luck.

Bypassing air compressor in a chevy 95 g20 van

Well if you're trying to bypass the air conditioning compressor, your original serpentine belt will obviously not work as it will be too long. Installing another pulley would really be more work that it's worth and likely cost a fair amount since you'd have to have a custom bracket made, or a mount to fit in place of the compressor. Your best bet would be to have your local parts supply look up the belt for the same make, model, year and engine specs as your vehicle but without Air Conditioning. The g20 uses all the same mounting locations for other belt driven accessories regardless of the presence of an AC compressor. Therefore, the belt should fit just fine. Also, you should spot on the belt routing diagram under the hood that it shows the optional routing for a belt without AC. (It does on mine anyway) Good luck and let me know how it goes.
