Contact the dealer from where the Montero was originally purchased (new from showroom). Give them the Chasis number and they will provide you with the stereo lock code from their records.
In-case the code is same for all 1997 Montero sports models then use the number 9613.

You need to get the book that came with your car, and reset the radio. Anytime you change the battery or do anything with the battery in which it is unhooked from the car. The radio will need to be reset is all. Such as in my car, the radio I have did not come with the car.. it is one I put in it myself. So when I change the battery, I always have to reset the clock. It is no big deal, just get the book that tells you about the radio and just reset it. Hope this helps and good luck!

Try to look in the packet that came with the car - it's usually in the glovebox - there should be a plastic card with the vehicles id number and the code you'd enter for the radio. I don't know if there's another way to reset that other than disconnecting & reconnecting the battery
If you can't find the card, start with the simple stuff. Look through the owners manuals and see if it has been written in. Try any 4 or 6 digit codes that you see. To enter a code, you must turn the radio on so it beeps and hold down the DNR button while entering the 6 digit code. turn on the radio, press the band button, and then type in the 4 digit code. The procedure for other radios may be slightly different. If you don't find the code in the owner's manuals, remove the radio from the dash using the two little prongs. With the radio out, check the outside of it for possible codes, and try any you find - you might get lucky. Write down the serial number and your car's VIN number. Call up a local dealer and tell them that you need your security code. They will run a check to make sure your car or radio hasn't been stolen. If everything is OK, they will contact you with the code.

Hope it may helps you;

Regards,
VOTIT

    Also, the serial #.

You could also call mitsubishi helpline and give your model# and serial# to them and they will give you the reset code.

    Thanks

better u have to pull stereo out to see the serial
number. Then he can use the serial number to look up the code for me.If you are original car owner, the code would have been on plastic card delivered with the cars paperwork.

    Also,
dealer should not be charging for such a small service as looking up a
code for you. Talk to the service manager if needed. Good luck!

If there's no code working the best thing that you can do is to ask for the code from your dealer they will need the serial number and after that can give you the code that you need for this radio...

What is the pin code for a 2005 mitsubishi outlander

When you disconnect your battery and then reconnect it again, it disables the radio. This is an anti-theft protection for your car radio.
The enable your radio the activation code is in your vehicle owner's manual. If you do not have this code you need to go to your Mitsubishi service centre and get them to enter this code for you.

The wrong code for the radio was entered in for my 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport and the radio says OFF, how do I reset the radio to say CODE, so I can put in the correct code?

Not sure if this will work but if you have a battery replaced in your car you usually need to reprogram your radio code. try disconnecting your battery for a bit, connecting it & then see if it asked you for the code when you turn it on. Then put the right code in. I hope that works. it would be worth a try anyway. hope this helps and good luck.

The battery was changed now the radio needs a code

The code is unique to every radio. Sometimes the radio code is written in the owners manual by a previous owner. If you can't find the code for the radio you will have to bring it to a mitsubishi dealer and have them get the code for you. They will probably charge you a small fee.

Radio code

GETTING THE RADIO SERIAL NUMBER: <BR>
2000 - Carefully take the front panel off that surrounds the radio and temperature buttons, it will snap straight out. Wiggle the radio out about two inches, it is a tight fit. Get the serial number off the radio. It is on a sticker on the top, left side. Call a Mitsubishi dealer with the serial number. They will want proof of ownership, so have the title ready. After putting in the four digit serial number, hit the cd button and that enters it.The code is also written on an antitheft card that comes with the car and may be written in the owners manual in one of the back pages.
<BR> 1999 - Carefully remove the cup holder by pulling it out, then you will see the sticker with the radio serial number.
<BR> Other Years - I don't know an easy way to get the radio serial number, find a radio install savy person and ask them to help you. My dealership said they would do it for me and charge me for 30-60 mins worth of labor.. (At $75/hour) <BR> <BR>
RADIO SAYS "OFF" OR "LOCK": <BR>
Leave the "off" display on for 1 hour uninterupted, then it will automatically reset back to UNLOCK CODE.
<BR> When you turn it back on again after that time has passed it will ask for "code". <BR> <BR>
RADIO SAYS "UNLOCK CODE:" <BR>
Call your local MItsubishi dealership and ask for the service department.
<BR>They have a computer program where they punch in the serial number from your radio (you have to supply the number) and it will tell them the UNLOCK CODE for your radio. My dealership offered to give it to me free over the phone, if I knew my radio serial number. Enter the code using the buttons on your radio. And write the code down, this will show up everytime your radio looses connection to its power source - the car battery.

I recently change my mitsubichi ganlant battery now the radio is asking me for a code.

You have fallen into the same problem I did. When you change the battery on the newer vehicles it kills the security code in the radio. If you bought the car new, check your owners manual to see what the procedure is to reset it. You may have the code in the manual or you may have information on where to call etc.. If not go to the dealer and they can reset it for you, for a nominal fee. To prevent this get a plug in device from Wal Mart that goes in the 12 volt power outlet and has a nine volt battery in it. this prevents the code from being erased if you disconnect the battery.
