Question about 2007 Dodge Sprinter

1 Answer

Transmission? My 2007 3500 Sprinter Cube Van has 73K miles. It is used for light freight delivery. Approx 50K miles per year. I purchased it new. Last night as my driver arrived back into town from a 425 mile trip he took off from a redlight. Made it a couple of blocks distance then it is like the transmission released. The truck( in drivec or reverse) will not rev beyond about 1500 rpm. . It revs normally while in park. I disconnect the battery and the problem resets but truck will travel only about 100yds then the trans. releases again. We towed back to the yard to see what the light of day shows. I have not tried it this am but will reset it and try it while it is cold. the transmission has never been serviced. It appears that it is an electrical problem and wondeer if it has anything to do with the transmission needing service. Please help, as this truck is my livelyhood. Todd

As the vehicle has just had a full service your van shouldn't be suffering those problems and you should return to the repairer and complain bitterly, do a war dance or whatever it takes for them to finish the job and deliver what you paid for.

If your Sprinter is fuel injected and catalysed there will be nothing to adjust but you need to know the CO2 content rises as the engine runs more efficiently while it is the CO level that should fall.

There are many reasons for poor fuel economy other than high exhaust emissions but after a proper full service the vehicle should already be running as efficiently as possible.

You can do all of this yourself if you buy the programmer at autozone...oreilly's etc. Instructions come with it. Expect to pay a gefty price but it will pay for itself in the long run. You can also register at for free and register your car and get free access to any online repair manual. You can reset the brakes with the same device.

Do i need transmission fluid change even the fluid level and color is good. i did not change last 3 years. drove almost 50000 miles.

It is always a good idea to follow manufacture recommendations when changing any fluid. I would say that it definetly would not hurt to change the transmission fluid after 50k miles and three years. While you are changing the fluid, look into changing out the filter too.

Have a 2004 Sprinter that produces a ESP and Traction light after approx 12 miles of driving. Shut off ignition and lights go out for another approx 12 miles. No codes found with scan check. Have checked...

The problem is a lack of agreement between the output signals to the ECU from the speed sensor on the transmission output shaft and the speed sensors in the wheel hubs. These will need to be checked. There is an outside possibility that a reluctor ring on one of the hubs has snapped and although the sensor is working fine it is picking up the wrong signal. Of the three possibilities I would suspect the speed sensor on the transmission. These sensors have the characteristic error of reducing the voltage signal output as they warm up and the transmission does get very hot. This means that speed sensors can work perfectly when started but as temperature rises begin to behave erratically. This type of error escapes ECU monitoring.
