Question about 2003 Pontiac Sunfire

2003 sunfire 4dr starting problem

Hi I have a 2003 pontiac sunfire that won't start whenever it feels like it, it is becoming very annoying, it sometimes will take just 3-4 diffrent times to crank or some times until the battery can't take it any more. I took it to the GM dealership and they don't know what the problem is, there are no codes in the system and the fuel pump pressure is good even when it was acting up. They mentioned something about the security system thinking that it is not recognizing the key or so bur I highly doubt that because the key that my car has there's no chip in it. I would really appreciate if any suggestions can be given to me, thank you in advance.

When this occurs locate the crankshaft position sensor mounted somewhere on the bell housing ,take a small hammer and lightly tap it while someone cranks the car over if it fires right up you got your culprit, sometimes this will work and sometimes not but the only way to test this sensor is with a graphing multimeter a good shop should be able to test this for you( you can also see if the car has spark when this problem is occurring by pulling a spark plug wire and laying it close to a good ground, or plug a test spark plug in the wire and ground it with the supplied lead, if you have no spark this sensor can also be your problem . these problems can be annoying and hard to locate but give this a try i have a good feeling about this one ;) please rate

2003 sunfire won,t start, turns over but does not get spark, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Hi Alan, Have the vehicle scanned with a diagnostic scan tool. The problem may be a crankshaft or camshaft pickup sensor. The scan will pinpoint where the problem is. Regards John

My 2003 pontiac sunfire starts for a few seconds and turns off what could be the problem

A faulty engine oil pressure sensor will do just that. The third wire from it runs the fuel pump upon starting the engine. Once oil pressure is acheived the relay takes over
Replace the oil sensor to fix this problem

Does my 2003 pontiac sunfire ecotec motor have a cam sensor? Where is it? If it starts as soon as u give it gas it cuts out. I've replaced: fuel pump, fuel filter, coil pk, spark plugs, crank sensor,...

there is still more to check. like the mass air flow sensor, the whole fuel line cleanout, and if its an auto it does have a camshaft sensor. its located into the transmission.

Check automatic transmission fluid 2001 pontiac sunfire

You need to raise the vehicle and start it. Remove the plug near where the passenger side driveshaft comes out. The head of the plug is 7/16. Trans fluid will stream out of the hole when the engine is running when the transmission is full, If fluid doesn't run out, fill the trans until fluid runs out. The fill cap is red and it is on top under and around the air cleaner box. If you need more help let me know.

Sunfire won't start

Have you local gm dealer run your vin "vehicle identification number" on there computer to see if the starter recall was done on it. If it has been done it sounds like it could be a bad starter.
