Thanks, Yeah they sag and i found the hinges. But over the years they have been slammed shut so the latch mechanisms are shot. The driver side only needs the latch mech. But the passenger side is missing everything it only has the outside handle and the latch but it doesnt work.

  • junkamigo Sep 12, 2008

def helpful but latch mechanisms are busted. Also need the rods that go from the indoor handle/lock switch to latch mech.

  • junkamigo Sep 12, 2008

i guess my question is what the name of the mechanism that keeps the door shut. And what is the name of the rods that run from the inside handle and lock to the mechanism and then to the outside

Early Chey pickups are notorious for the hinge pins going bad.
When the pins go bad, the doors will sag. You probably notice that if you pick up on the door slightly, it will close.
So you want to replace the door hinges.
There are many places to get parts. Dealer is the one spot.
To locate a place on line, do a Google search on Chevy pickup door hinges, and you will get at least 30 pages of results.

Fairly simple job, just nut and bolt work.

Then your best bet is going to be the wrecking yard.

I think it's 84 through 96? use the same parts. Both the pickups and Suburbans.

You should be able to get everything you need there.

If you can find the right color, you might just want to change the whole door.

Beside the pickups and suburbans, anything in the turck body line is the same (Yukon, Blazer, GMC) All the same stuff.

    Latch mechanism (yes, honestly)

And the rods are the latch actuator rods.

    Latch mechanisms (yes, really)

And the rods are the latch actuators rods.

The pin that is on the body that the door locks against is the Latch Body Pin.

Hi there I suspect that power door lock relay doesn't work properly on my Kia Sportage 1997 I'm not able to lock the doors so I'm planning to replace it could anyone suggest me where is located

all doors fail? (no symptoms posted) so cant REALLY help.
the FSM shows this
alldata.com too.
log in and read. its all there, all the time.

before you suspect , use the book and see how it really works.
9/10 times, even a tech is surprised. (many times there is no relay)
a wild guess that. huh? just switches and solenoids and a fuse.
the use a volt meter (a $10 tool) to find out what part is REALLY bad.

Can I get a manual window door from the salvage yard and replace the power windor door on my 1988 chevy c1500 that doesnt work?

Yes, you can get a Manuel operated window and install it in your present door you just have to disconnect and remove the present window motor and the elec. You may have to change the door pad as well so you have a hole in the panel for the manual crank for the window.

Door ajar light is on and inside light will not shut off when all doors are shut?

Most likely it is a bad switch/relay on the door. You should be able to actuate the switch with your finger when the door is open. If nothing happens when you push the switch in and out then its possible that you may need to replace the switch. You might first try removing the switch and checking it to see if it is stuck and make sure the wiring is connected securely. Your local Chrysler Dealership should have the replacement part and could replace it for you if you feel like its something you don't want to tackle.

Rear hatch and barn doors will not lock or alarm with remote, key or lock button.

In time with usage, the electric locks in the doors and gates wear out.
You can purchase replacement parts... a little involved to change but doable.
I suggest a Haynes manual for photos for disassembly .
(I've got a 2001 and all 4 doors eventually quit...bought replacement parts at local dealer)

Cant open rear doors from the inside; cruise control doesnt work

after cking the child lock, try locking and unlocking the manual locks to see if you can hear any movement inside the doors. if all else fails, you have to remove the door panels.. starting from the aft lower corner, (careful not to tear the plastic moisture sheeting, just peel it back), the door panels are normally held in by plastic plugs and screws under the armrest, etc. once inside the door cavity, ck the linkages for wear or any signs of them being disconnected. try all the lock mechanisms again to pinpoint the cause, its good practice to clear all the drain holes at the lower part of the cavity once you're in there.

Doors are very hard to shut on my 1988 Dodge ram

I'm not sure what you were told but the (knobs) are the strikers. Do the latches in the door line up with the strikers? Do the doors hang straight? You might need to adjust the hinges or the striker. If it all does line up then you might need a new latch.

Door handle

I suggest that you inquire about parts from outside dealers ships due to length of time between actually attempting to fix your problem especially with recall repairs. Both my doors handle have stuck or have failed. Generally pulling it apart and greasing the internal parts helps however if the part has long since gone beyond repair. Simply finding another part from a wrecker or parts shops is very good.

Hope this is helpful
