Car (Cobalt 2005) went dead suddenly and display panel was dead I could not even open the door initially with the battery operated key.

After jumping battery on my car, the car started. I have the car engine light on steady. I also noticed later the enhanced traction system light was also on !!

I had a similar issue of the battery going flat dead...after jumping it everything was fine except in intermittent check engine light....my problem was the ground cable in the trunk was loose....after i tightened it up..no more issues. cheap thing to try before following the other advice that was left here

When you have the display panel say engine power reduced...and car stops. The item that needs checking and replacing is called a ECM- Electronic Control Module, it looks like a miniature sealed laptop that plugs in on the drivers side of the engine. We used to have the car do this all the time, until we replaced that module, I have since put 30 K on the car, and it now runs fine. It did cost a few bucks to fix for sure.

I have an 06 cobalt and recently my car started to suddenly lose power while driving. It says reduce engine power when this happens. If I turn the car off for a minute it'll go away.

This has nothing to do with the Catalytic converter ! Plugged catalytic converters don't go away after shutting off the vehicle !
This reduced engine power has to do with the
Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) System
Reduced Engine Power Mode When the ECM detects a condition with the TAC system, the ECM may enter a reduced engine power mode. Reduced engine power may cause one or more of the following conditions:
?€¢
Acceleration limiting--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the vehicle acceleration is limited.

?€¢
Limited throttle mode--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the maximum throttle opening is limited.

?€¢
Throttle default mode--The ECM will turn off the throttle actuator motor and the throttle will return to the spring loaded default position.

?€¢
Forced idle mode--The ECM will perform the following actions:

-
Limit engine speed to idle by positioning the throttle position, or by controlling the fuel and spark if the throttle is turned off.

-
Ignore the accelerator pedal input.

?€¢
Engine shutdown mode--The ECM will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.

Engine power reduced displayed

sounds like the camshaft sensor or the crankshaft sensor, either way I think your car is being recalled for a faulty ignition switch which could turn off by itself.

What is hte proper temp on a 2008 cobalt?

Ususally the thermostat opens at 195 to 200 degrees. Coolant and pressure allow normal temps to go to 230 to 240, and much higher under heat soak condition (unit turned off). Fans kick in near that temp. So, the engine needs to be that hot to be efficient and to have emission controls shift to normal... Also the high temprature prolongs engine life by forcing moisture from the oil.

I was driving home tonight and all of sudden I felt something slip in engine and the message engine reduced power came across. The symbol t/c came on also. My check engine light has been on for almost two...

Check the drive belt, and the alternator, most likely if the belt is still on,and it is running on the pulleys ok,then the alternator maybe out, have it checked, with out the alternator working the engine will not perform.

Why does reduce engine power light comes on chevy

That is a hard problem to pin point without knowing what codes the computer has stored. It can be any number or sensors or engine problems.

You can go to most auto parts stores and they will pull the codes for you for free.

My 2007 cobalt won't start-displays ''Engine Power Reduced''...what's wrong with it?

The computer has detected a fault in the emissions system that could damage the engine. It disables the engine so you cannot drive it and damage it. It must go to the shop. This sometimes happens after an aftermarket exhaust system is installed and it was not done properly or if engine modifications were done improperly. This can clog the catalytic converter and cause higher back pressure.

Engine power reduced

Locate the IP to body harness connector, which may be located in and around the left hand kick panel area or inside the IP. Check to see if there is a water leak into the area and repair as necessary.
