The fuel filter is accessable from inside the trunk. remove the trunk carpet mat. You will notice a circular panel on the left side which is held to the trunk floor with two screws. remove the screws and panel and you will immediately see the fuel filter. When replacing the fuel filter, note the direction of fuel flow and Do Not Install The New Fuel Filter Backwards!

poor gas mileage with any vehicle is usually due to lack of maintenance.

Where is the fuel filter located on the 1996 Mazda Millennium

On 1996 Mazda Millenia 2.5L MFI DOHC 6cyl the Fuel Filter is located under vehicle, passenger side, below seating area, front of fuel tank, mounted on frame in fuel line.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

It doesnt get enough gas while it idles. could this be a fuel filter problem?

If the car runs well up hills and accelerates up to speed, then it is getting enough fuel(I don't think it is the filter but it won't cost much to replace it anyway). Poor idle is usually a carburetor problem or from retarded timing and vacuum lines being off or cracked.

Where is my fuel filter at mazda 1996

According to my research, the fuel filter from the 92 to the 2001 is located in the truck under the carpet on the passenger side.

Does the fuel filter affect gas mileage

there are lots of things that can affect gas mileage. if the spark plugs and wires are worn out, the air filter being dirty, dirty fuel filter, proper inflation of the tires, O2 sensors that are contaminated and performing poorly. the first thing to do would be that the engine is in good working order, as in no check engine light, no misfire, etc. a poorly running engine will put out terrible gas mileage. then you can start with the things i listed.
