2002 MERCEDEZ CLK 430 Shut off and wont start for atleast 10 mins wait???

My car had problems starting for past few weeks. Its just took a long time for to actually crank on. but it turned on. Today i tried to turn it on and it wouldn't come on for 4 tries. I waited 20 mins and then it turned on, i drove to store shut it off and got back in and my car turned on, i drove over in the same shopping center, to the bank and while at the drive thru my car shut off. i had to wait again 10 mins for it to finally turn back on and then drove home, while driving my car shut off again. again i had to wait about 10-15 minutes and it cranked on. I am not sure what is goin on wiht my car????

Hi there, on the mercedes the crank sensor goes bad frequently. Its between the transmission and the engine on the drivers side about 11 o'clock position. You will need a internal torx 8 to remove the small screw that holds it, once removed see if it has oil on it, if it does change the sensor and get ready to do a engine rear main seal job because its going to happen again but not too soon. Please buy a Bosch crank sensor and no aftermarket, its going to save you future headaches.

Is the check engine light on? if so this will lead you in the right direction once you get the code.

Turns over and wont start at times when it dont start watee 10 min then it will start

Does it do it hot or cold , after driving the truck for awhile or sitting overnight ? Heat can cause resistance problems , electrically speaking . Have you checked to see if there is spark or fuel pressure when it won't start ? If you narrow it down to one or the other it makes it easier for diagnosing . Engine stalls on highway starts after 15 min

Sounds like the same problem I have been having with my 2002 Sedona for
the past 6 or 8 months. It would run OK for several days, weeks, or months,
then just quit. If I let it set for 10 to 20 minutes, it would restart and run fine
for at least the rest of that day. About 2 weeks ago, I was fortunate that it happened when someone was with me, so I was able to determine that it
was not getting any spark. Since then the problem has gotten worse and
more frequent - it was happening almost every day and would take over
1/2 an hour before it would start again. This morning was the last straw.
I drove for about 4 miles and it quit. Took 1 hour and 10 minutes before it
would restart. Drove another 2 miles and did it again. This time it took
1 hour 35 minutes before restart. After 1 more mile, it quit again. Took 2
hours, this time. Made it another mile and BAM! - did it again.
My bro towed me home. I determined that it is most likely NOT the crankshaft position sensor, because 99% of the time they either work,
or they don't. Very rarely does it cause in intermittant problem. The most
likely suspect is the engine computer. That was always a likely culpret
when I worked on GM cars. Today I installed a $50 junk yard engine control computer. I am crossing my fingers!
I will know on Thursday, as I have a 50 mile trip to make.
I will post again on Thursday, to let you all know.

Test battery charge, jump the battery to start and check battery charge, sound like a alternator or voltageregulator wrong there.

its possible it could be the fuel pump have the pressure and the fuel volume checked with a gage and see how much the pump can pump gas in about 15-20 seconds, and compare to specs.

Sounds like the crankshaft position sensor needs to be replaced. They are a common problem with the Mercedes. That sensor is the one that the engine control module looks at to see if the engine is running. When they get hot and stop producing a signal the engine control module thinks the engine is not running and shuts of the fuel. After waiting awhile they cool down and the vehicle will start up again. I've changed many of them when I worked at the dealer. Tricky part is when there working and the car is running there will be no check engine light on or code stored. Usually will only have the code when the car won't start. Let me know what you end up finding out on it but that would be the first place to look and probably the cheapest.

Car won't start after entering the wrong code

The wait time for these is usually about 24 hrs. Have you tried calling the dealer to see if there is an over-ride code and do you have the proper code to enter? If you call the dealer, you will need the vin and registration.
