I have the same 944 porsche. When I start it from a cold start it keeps running but it idles about 500-600 rpm. When it's warmed up, it runs fine and the idle increases to about 950 rpm.

May be your engine temp sensor which adjusts your idle when the engine is cold and as it warms up.

Want info about factory recommended spark plugs for 1986 Porsche 944

You do not have to many options for these cars. You can you use Bosch WR7DC which are like a copper plug, or if you can find them, you may have to order them online, NGK Iridium IX plugs work really well. Thats what I had in my 944T along with a MSD Blaster 2 coil I picked up and a set of plug wires I bought from Lindsey Racing when I bought the plugs.

Knocking noise Porsche 944

sounds like it could be "knocking from the cam". i would throw a thing of SeaFoam or Marvel Mystery Oil in the oil slot. my knocking went away in 100 miles. the stuff works wonders. Good luck. My knocking used to be very loud the higher the rpms.

1986 Porsche 944. Instruments not working

Sounds like a possible fuse problem. Have you checked your fuses yet. If not look in your owners manual to see which fuse(s) control your instrument panel, or anything else you are having trouble with. Keep in mind, if a short did occur for some reason, more than one fuse may be blown. When i accidental crossed two door lock wires, i blew 6 fuses, some of which were not even related to the wires i crossed. Hope this helps

Find and remove the horn fuse or relay to keep the horn from blasting and attempt to start the vehicle. If it starts inspect the clearance between the horn switch and its ground contact. If there is a factory alarm, which I doubt, that has been reset by disconnecting the battery/battery going dead then call your local Porsche dealer for additional advice.

Good Price for a 944?

A funny old saying is the most expensive things in life are a free boat and a cheap Porsche.

The cost can vary for labor but for parts check out www.rockauto.com and the normal parts houses.

It will be a money pit, even if you do ALL the labor. If this is a 2nd car and you have free money to play with then ok. But it is also not a fast car. Its more of a Lux Sprts coupe.
