How do you change the #3 spark plug on an 01 Blazer?

wires are mixed up or you have the spark plug gap wrong. remove number 3 and one spark plug and compare the tips

Something else wrong with that cylinder. Check compression and swap injectors, etc.

It is a bit of a chore, but no real tricks involved. Just lots-o-tight spaces.

You will need a few special tools, including a slim profile spark plug socket.
I used a Stahlwille socket#51, a 16mm socket with rubber insert.

A T27 Torx bit and a Low Range torque wrench (for the Torx screws- 8Nm),
and a regular range torque wrench for the Spark Plugs (28 Nm).

Another tool that made the job easy, was MB part# 110 589 01 01 00, aka
Hazet # 2771. You use the wrench to pry the spark wire off the plug.

Other helpful items were 3" and 5" extensions, and a U-Joint.

In all, it took around 3 hours. A preatty straight forward procedure.

Although the coils and plug/block areas ARE marked with A & B, I was paranoid, and just did one plug/plug wire at a time, JUST IN CASE!

CHANGING SPARK PLUGS IN TRAIL BLAZER. YOU NEED TO REMOVE AIR INTAKE RESONATOR AND IGNITION COILS.YOU NEED LONG 3/8 EXTENSION - SPARK PLUG SOCKET - 3/8 RATCHET WRENCH. NEED SPARK PLUG GAUGE AND A TORQUE WRENCH.YOU CAN GET BY WITH OUT ONE LONG AS YOU DONT OVER TIGHTEN PLUGS AND STRIP OUT ALUMINUM THREADS.

The plugs can be accessed by removing the front wheels and lifting up the flexible rubber splash shields on inner fender. All plugs are easily accessible with the exception of the #3 plug ( driver's side , center). Unfortunately the steering shaft is located right directly in front of this plug. Some people disconnect the steering shaft and move it aside to reach the plug but I have been able to remove the spark plug by placing the spark plug socket over the plug and then using an open end wrench or ratcheting box wrench over the hex of the spark plug socket.

Guaranteed, this # 3 plug will take as much time as the other 5 plugs combined. Good luck!

The best possible way to replace the center spark plug or number 3 plug is to jack the front end up so the wheel's are off the ground and go through the l/f wheel well splash shield to gain access to plug and wire. You will most definately need a double jointed 5/8 spark plug socket which can be purchased at autozone, pepboy's, etc. for about 8 dollars. To aide in installing it I suggest you use a piece of 3/8th's fuel line to start the spark plug by shoving the end of the plug into the fuel hose and twisting it into the cylinder head. I suggest you turn plug into cylinder head as far as you can go until you can put the socket back on it.

If it is only doing this in overdrive lock up, tap the brake if it quits see a transmission man your torque converter might be bad

Go www.automotiveforums.com and look in the How to section. There is a post that gives detailed steps on removal of #3 spark plug.

Check that you are getting spark at the spark plugs. Pull the wires one by one and stick a screwdriver in the end of the wire. Put the shaft of the screwdriver near a metal grounded surface and have someone turn the key to start. Is there a spark on each wire?? If so, when was the last time that the plugs were changed. They're only good for say 50k miles.
