Question about 1996 Volkswagen Jetta

!997 Jetta doesnt start when it is early inthe morning w/ dew on the Ground or rainy day.

HI

I have a 97 jetta that has a problem when starting in the very early morning because of the wet dew or if it is raining. It takes about 10 minutes to get it going during these certain situations. After it is started no problems even if it is raining. The car will start.
If it is later on in the morning it starts right up w/ no problems and I have no problems w/ it after that.
We have changed cap rotor and wires.
Your help is greatly appreciated!

I have the same problem with my '97 Jetta. Also, sometimes smoke comes up from the steering column when I am trying to get it started.

Were you able to fix your car??

I had the same problem with miosture and my 96 Jetta GLS dying, and I finally figured out it was the ignition coil. Spray the coil with water lightly while it is running, and it'll probably kill the car. They you'll know!

I have a similar issue but my car is a 1996 VW Jetta V6 2.8L DOHC with the Distributorles Ignition System (DIS). I noticed that in the morning when it is wet... after a soaking rain, heavy dew, or extremely humid day, the DIS was sparking or causing electrical sparks at each plug wire connector. I am surmizing that the plug wires are going bad, but am still confused because the DIS is an epoxy filled module... how it it shorting and to what???

I was going to try and replace the wireset, but dang... impossible with the infamous "tool, special". Any help is appreciated in this...

Damp is getting into your electrics. Spray all wires and disributor with WD40 after wet days or nights before trying to start it. That should cure it

Jetta 95 won´t start

Moisture in your ignition system can cause this to happen , start with a cap/rotor and wire replacement. More then likely this will cure your rainy day blues.
