I have a similar problem. The power steering felt jerky just the moment you start and drive off. My mechanic flushed out the old fluid with a power steering flush fluid and replenish with new fluid and that did the trick. The old fluid looked clean in the resovior but down in the steering rack, its a different story. The fluid is dark and contained some sludge. No wonder the steering assist was jerky.

Vibration and bad smell 2004 chevy trailblazer

I believe it is a power steering pump. My car does the same thing and the power steering fluid was low. We completely filled the power steering and a week later it was low again.

Vibration in steering wheel of a 2009 S60 Volvo?

Although this may seem highly unlikely, but it is a possibility that a bolt or some bolts have loosened up between the steering rack and the steering rod shaft from the rack, this is why there is vibration when not moving, because the power steering pump is sending pressure to the rack and at the point where the pressure from the power steering pump is received that is where the nuts or bolts have loosened up causing vibration to the steering shaft as such.Possibly also one of the diaphrams or seals in the rack is faulty causing an abnormal distribution of pressure. But I favour the first cause as mentioned. I hope I'm not wrong.

When turning wheel it vibrates could it be power stearing pump????

it is possible that it is the pump, but if the power steering fluid level is ok and this is happening it is more than likely the power steering rack (steering gear).

I NOTICED THAT THE POWER STEERING FLUID SPLASHES IN THE RESERVOIR AND I HAVE ENGINE VIBRATION AT IDLE AND UP TO 3.000 R/M. HAS IT TO DO WITH P/S PRESSURE SWITCH ON THE PUMP?

Hi:
It is doubtful that the power steering pump is the cause of your vibration, but to find out for sure, remove your serpentine belt, and start up the truck and run it briefly without the belt to see if the vibration goes away. If so, you know that it is caused by a belt driven accessory..Then you can individually check the power steering pump, the alternator, and the AC compressor if you have one.

Power steering makes noise and vibrates when turning . Is this a pump problem or something to do with magnasteer ?

  • Check the Steering fluid first. and check the hose of the steering fluid make sure there is no leak. And after you add a steering fluid and still there is a noise visit a good mechanic and advise the mechanic to check the pump.

2004 dodge caravan , when i turn the steering left or right a loud vibration from the front ,i change'd the links and the rubbers and i still have the same vibration, what i have to do??

it sounds like the power steering pump is low on pressure as the vibration is almost always caused by low pressure, check that the drive belt for the pump is tight(meeds to have alittle movement but only a little with a gentle press of the thumb on it)if the belts ok and tight enough just look carefully at the pump with a friend cranking the steering, pump may be moving on mounts but unlikley, and check nothings binding up the steering

Power Steering pump appears to be leaking but is full????

Just guessing. Could it be a warped brake disk? That would cause vibration. And vibration in steering might conceivably cause splashing out the power steering reservoir. You would know if the disk were warped by a shudder when you brake at hight speeds.
