Adjust Airconditioner belt tension on 2001 GMC Yukon

Some of these didnt have a tensioner, if yours does it will be spring loaded at all times, but some have no tensioner and the belt has to be rolled onto the pulleys by turning the engine over by hand.. If this is your style the belt is. One time install deal if you take it off you need to replace it!!

The large belt that goes around the engine started to shred and came off we found a small ball bearing on the ground the size of a pea...what happened and how much to fix?

Likely the bearing came either from an idler pulley or the belt tensioner. Rotate each pulley and feel for looseness or binding. Can't guess at cost because I would need to look up the part (unknown) and I have no idea what shops in your area charge or if you are replacing it.
Good luck though!
