Question about 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
2004/54 reg Grand /cherokee 2.8 crd diesel, all drives ok,then engine management light comes on,power drops off, switch engine off, wait a minute then restart, engine management icon is extinguished power from engine back to normal, the same fault occurs with no pattern to useage of vehicle
Ok... using a digital ohmeter (if you don't have a scan tool) check the throttle position sensor, mass air flow sensor and the manifold pressure sensor (MAP). Instructions for testing are too long for me to write them out, but can be found in any decent repair manual. As a last resort, you can swap parts from another known good vehicle (maybe from a friend) this won't damage anything unless you break something during r&r. I'm leaning towards the tps, but on this electronic junk, everything feeds off of everything else and it's easy to get fooled... could even be the crank sensor. Sorry to be so vauge but without being there and driving/testing myself I can't honestly be positive enough for a definite answer. (you did change the fuel filter, right?)

SOURCE: Grand Cherokee a non-starter
Check the glow plug rail, Its easy to do, get a thick electric cable and hold it on the positive side of the battery and then onto the Rail connecting the glow plugs, do this for 20-30 seconds and try to start the engine, or better still get a friend to start the engine while you hold the cable on.
Diesel engines work on heat and compression, so if your glow plugs are weak then you wont get the heat needed to create combustion.
