Question about 2007 BMW X5 3.0si SAV

1 Answer

Trouble starting My X5 starts sometimes and does not start other times. When it doesn't start I have to have it towed to the garage and the mechanics cannot find anything wrong.

I have the diesel variant of the 2007 BMW X5. My battery discharges rapidly (especially when at the car wash when all the doors are open). BMW says there is nothing wrong with the battery, BUT a battery specialist store tested the battery and reported 76% capacity remaining even though it is fully charged. Advice was to replace the battery. Vehicle is at my local BMW dealership overnight and they will run full diagnostics. I'll post the results as soon as I have them.

Have the battery checked for its acidity level!
also check if your alternator charges the battery!
test also the relays for the starter.

S-10 Sometimes Starts, Mechanic Can't Find Problem

Yep, heres one. Start with pulling the crank fuse. The fuse is probably good, but you have a corrosion/contact issue. Putting it back will solve this issue. I would do all of them, as one will do it, more are sure to follow. Also do they relays. Next would be checking wires. Most times wires will loose connection at the plug, sometimes they will break right at the plug.

Engine cranks but car won't start and the rotor doesn't move

Pull the distributor out. Probably the gear on the bottom has broken away from the distributor shaft.

1998 Mazda Protoge won't start

One of two things. Starter (or starter solenoid) or Neutral Safety Switch. Check the starter by disconnecting the EFI relay, then jump a wire from the positive term of battery to lug on starter solenoid does it crank okay? If not, then check the NSS, located under the airbox, can be adjusted using the offset bolt, just a tiny bit at a time, still no start? replace the NSS and adjust as necessary.

I had the same issue (replaced fuses, fuel pump, pump relays fuel lines, selaers and gaskets and so on). Finally, I had fuel guage sending unit replaced (the thingy that measure the fuel in the tanks) in both the main and reservoir tanks-and no more problems.

BMW X5 2000 problem

There can be many causes for the car not starting. Generally it is usually a fuel or a distribution problem. Many fuel problems of this kind are related to electronic injection and ECU. This kind of troubles often need special equipment, and can be fixed only at a well equipped garage, where they can test fuel flow pressure and volume in monitoring ECU feedback at the same time.
Simple things you can do are
Checking and eventually replacing fuel filter.
Checking and eventually replacing air filter.
Check that there is no oil on top of new spark plugs.
In last case try to listen if car is running on three cylinders, this can leave uncombusted oil on cylinder, and mean there are troubles with distribution or camshaft.
It is useless replacing one of the sensors without testing them, and when a sensor is gone you usually get some additional light on your instrument panel. At a garage they will connect straight to the computer and get an error message in return, in case one of the sensors is bad.
