Question about 2000 Chevrolet Astro

1 Answer

Gas meter is fluctuating from to full -meter shows more than 1/4 and vehicle is shutting down/stalling fro gas.

I recently bought a chevy astro 2000 (RWD) and is lie one thing after the next. I have three questions .1) I recently shut down(vehicle keeps holding back for gas) although the gas meter reads between 1/4 and 1/2-then is swings to a complete full tank.when I put gas( alot) it then drives nomal).Could it be the fuel pump, float ,meter -or the relay.I don;t want to spend unneccessarily. Also when I step on the brakes the vehicle and the steering wheel swings to the left.I check a machanic today and he said the I have to replace both calipers and some flex hose.Do I have tghe tw calipers or just the one on right?Lastly,is there a site where I can go to so as to diagnose a problem should it comes up in future .Thank you in advance.
Andrew.

gas meeter fluctuates for me as well. It works fine as long as tank is 1/4 full or more... Other than being an annoyance, and caused me to run out once, I've left it alone.

My car will start and idle fine sometime and sometime it dies and dies when put in gear

Engine stalls cold or RPM fluctuates at idle up and down or dies near idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve but always run a OBD2 fault code as well as the cleaning procedure. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control. If the above cleaning doesn't cure your issues you need to have the computer controlled automatic idle speed control system diagnosed and repaired by a dealer or electronic engine control repair shop.

Why is my fuel gauge on my 2000 chevy tahoe moving

I think so too. May be sulfur from the fuel on the resister card that the wiper travels over. Try adding some Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner to 1/4 tank of gas and see if it gets better.

2000 kia sephia constant engine stalling!!!

try this procedure and let me know if it cures the problem.

Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

Gas meter does not work.

no fluid on ground right?then it must be your float on your fuel pump.drain gas from tank and take both ''straps'' off.remove both fuel lines.be carefull some gas is still in lines.on the top of tank there will be a wire connector.unplug it,remove tank from under car.remove bolts on the fuel pump.you might be able to buy float sepertly.if not you might have to buy the it as one unit.

'05 Astro van is "bucking" at low speed when turning left or righ

Sounds like you have a c/v joint beginning to go bad...Could be wrong.... but, I'm not there to test it! Look underneath and see if any c/v boots are torn... that will be your first clue!!
