Question about 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

1 Answer

Air vents in the dash

When you turn on the air the main vents do not blow anything out. Its the 3 main vents that dont work, otherwise all other events blow air, hot and cold.
Is an electrical problem or could it be just a technical problem?
I noticed it didnt work after I had the car cleaned and detailed.

They are often operated by vacuum... look under the dash for any stray vacuum hoses...

Air blowing

Usually a sign you have a blend door that is stuck, or the controller has failed. The blend doors use small electric motors controlled by the main controller on the dash.

A/C doesn't work and only blow air out of the top of the vent. at windshield. Could this be a fuse or relay problem? My mom has lost her owner's manual and I don't know what relay goes to...

the directional for defrost and dash panel may have gone bad, there is no fuse for this. under the dash on the main vent, you will see a little box/with an electrical plug in. it's called an acuator.when you turn the knob to defrost,or dash, the acuator turns the door on the main vent to let the air flow to either the defrost,or dash.your acuator is most likely your problem.there is only one plug in to it and only 2-3 screws that remove it frome the vent panel under the dash.thank you for choosing!

I had a similar issue on an 05 silverado. Air would only blow out of defrost vents. But this worked for me:

1) Unplug HVAC fuse for 10-30 seconds
2) Start truck
3) A/C comes out defrost - wait about 10 to 15 secs
4) A/C then starts coming out the floor vents for about 5 seconds
5) A/C then starts coming out the dash vents.
6) While the A/C is coming out the dash vents, turn A/C OFF (otherwise it cycles back to defrost for good).
7) Turn truck OFF
8) Restart truck and it should work fine

Blend door actuator. When it fails for some reason it turns to the hot side and gets stuck. Dash must come out. I usually do it in 3 hours, because I've done it numerous times.
