Roaring sound from under hood; 1995 740I

I have a 1995, 740I, and the problem is there is an intermittent, roaring sound which comes from under the hood (right side/passenger's side). The gauges do not hiccup nor go into the red when this sound occurs. The sound can last anywhere from .5 sec to 5 seconds and it can occur once, twice, or six times within 3 seconds or 10 seconds. I have NOT found any actions controlled by me that will cause this roaring sound to occur on demand. Everytime the roaring sound happens it can be felt throughout the whole car. Like I said, I've revved my engine while in Park, in Reverse but the sound only happens when in Drive and I am on the Interstate or riding through the neighborhood. Your help would be appreciated.

Under the hood is a roaring sound like humming that gets louder.

It is not possible to propose a diagnosis without knowing the YEAR, MAKE, and MODEL of your vehicle.
That being said, open the hood, and figure out where the "roaring sound" is coming from. It's THAT.
(Very likely, it's your cooling fan(s).)

We have a 2004 Honda Civic that makes a roaring noise the faster the car goes - doesn't affect the performance of the car.

Where does the "roaring" sound like it is coming from? Can you feel any vibrations anywhere in the car? Under the seat? At your feet?

I hear a roaring noise when I turn.

Is the noise coming from your power steering pump which is under your hood, or from down by one of your front tires? If the noise is coming from under your hood you may be low on power steering fluid and you can probably get rid of the noise by simply adding some fluid to your pump. If the sound is coming from one of your front tires you may need to have a wheel bearing replaced. I hope this is helpful.
